Rare early-80's Dutch monosynth

Post by Sexor » Fri Nov 04, 2011 12:53 pm

I was browsing the Dutch classifieds pages when I came across this:

Apparently it's called the "E-Pro Mini Synth", designed and manufactured in the Netherlands. Only a handful were made.

At a glance, I can't find any more information on this synth at all, except that it's chock full of Curtis chips.

It does undeniably look quite similar to a more famous Dutch monosynth, the Synton Syrinx:

I wonder if there is a connection.

The company name was DGS - not sure what that stands for, but it appears they made two synths - the Scorpion and the Mini Synth. Check out these links and images.

Wow... cool! Too bad there's not a better pic of the right hand side, but I guess you can guess what most of the functions are.

I know this one as the MiniSynth from the Dutch company E-Pro.
They also made the 'Spirit' which is identical to the DGS Scorpion except for the colour.
From DGS there is also the Scorpion Plus and the Spider. I believe the Spider is targeted to compete with the Arp 2600.

That's about all I know of these synths. Very rare synths all of these.
If you have the money available, €700 is a tempting offer.

How about adding these creatures to the VSE database?

Surely moreso if you're a collector, rather than someone who intends to use it!

Do my eyes fool me or does the logo next to the 'Scorption' font remind you of something...?

Yes, I thought `Synton Syrinx' the moment I saw it, as well.

Synton was Felix Visser's company, as I recall. Maybe try Googling Visser's name in connection with this synth/company?
