Cool! Thanks for the link. Seems my JX-8P was made in May, 1985 and my MKS in Nov 1986.

Re: Boss & Roland serial number decoder
This is interesting.
I did a quick bit of experimentation with the Type II (1981 - 1989) 6-number format, it looks like the first number is the year and the second number is the month?
But the year doesn't always run from January to December, for some years it's from May to February or September to June etc.

So does it work for Roland too or only for Boss stuff?

Some roland gear I've had over the years:
Juno-106 - June 1984
JP-8000 - March 1997
JP-8080 - October 1998
JV-1080 - March 1995
JV-2080 - June 1997
Juno-106 - June 1984
JP-8000 - March 1997
JP-8080 - October 1998
JV-1080 - March 1995
JV-2080 - June 1997
Both used the same system. It'll work for either.Hybrid88 wrote:So does it work for Roland too or only for Boss stuff?

Re: Boss & Roland serial number decoder
The way it works is the first 2 digits in the Roland SN are the month since November 1980 which was 00, so 01xxxx is December 1980, 02xxx is January 1981, etc... I think you can also go backwards from there for older gear so that 99xxxx is October 1980. For example my Jupiter-4 is 95xxxx so it was made in July 1980.

Both, it would seem. Going by both my synths that I put in, the dates seemed to jive pretty well. (Happy 25th to my MKS!Hybrid88 wrote:So does it work for Roland too or only for Boss stuff?

Cheers - my Jupiter 4 was made in July 1981 making it one of the later ones.
