Re: a teenage boy's perspective on vintage synthesizers
I know this is a little OT but...speaking of VH, it seems to me that the favorite album of hardcore VH fans, almost without exception, is usually one of two albums: Van Halen (their debut release) or Fair Warning. (My vote is for Fair Warning.)

This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

That's a great song - I don't think any other band sounded like that in 1978.ninja6485 wrote:yea, but what about "ain't talkin 'bout love?"Dano wrote:I know this is a little OT but...speaking of VH, it seems to me that the favorite album of hardcore VH fans, almost without exception, is usually one of two albums: Van Halen (their debut release) or Fair Warning. I also prefer pre-Hagar Van Halen.
Ed was toying with the Minimoog as early as 1981. He played a Wurlitzer 200a through a Marshall on "And The Cradle Will Rock" in 1980. He said in an interview he went through a few P5's that all started smoking, so he decided on an OBXa. They must have been rev.1 P5's. The main keyboard riff from "Jump" sounds suspiciously like that of "Dirty Mind" by Prince from 4 years earlier. Also done on an OBXa!

How can you not love Van Halen after this?
"well, hog my hooter!"
additionally, I think it'd be more productive to point out synths that haven't been billed in internet ads as capable of doing jump.

"Dirty Mind" was most likely done on an OB-X. The OB-Xa wasn't released until early 1981, about 7-8 months after that album was recorded.Max Websta wrote:I also prefer pre-Hagar Van Halen.

1. Wobble bass is cool and if you don't like it, you're not cool.
2.
Van Halen Own.
3. Sammy hagar is great in chickenfoot. (ignore the bizarrely stupid lyrics).
4. You don't like hot for teacher? really?

Why we must give Hagar a slice of respect:
This song, she is... the greatness.

Yes, you are right; HFT was, indeed, the best song VH ever made...Automatic Gainsay wrote:Hot for Teacher? Come on... seriously.
p.s. there really is no "VH" after DLR left, so why even discuss it?

DLR went onto higher things.
Hot for teacher is without question though, everything that makes van halen brilliant.
