Re: New Moog apparently...
I too, often use noise for basslines, sometimes where it's fairly noticeable, other times in more subtle amounts. I wonder if it's possible to gate the audio input so that it triggers when notes are played. With how basic the minitaur is, I doubt it. Oh well, I have other synths that have noise sources so I can always to a two layer bassline with the other synth just triggering noise if I really want it that bad. Or I could always apply a noise gate on the minitaur
I'm just really curious to hear the timbre of the unit firsthand. Perhaps I won't bother with noise at all. I'll probably just use a little bit of saturation if I want to dirty it up a little. It's going to be such a nice addition to my setup, which is a good thing, because this is the last purchase I"m going to be able to make for quite some time.

Be kinda cool if Moog ever made a small keyboard version(2 octaves or so), ala Polar Dark Star size

I am pretty certain the external audio in will go through the VCA envelope. We'll know for certain in a short bit. Hopefully the manual will be out soon. It should be a short one.

Marc, your video is great, once again. Very intuitive and inspiring.Automatic Gainsay wrote:It should be noted that this synthesizer is specifically a BASS synthesizer. I played it yesterday quite extensively, and it is not meant to be your standard full-pitch-range synthesizer.
That being said... if you want a Moog for bass, you shouldn't care that that is the case. It is incredibly diverse in sound and functionality for a bass synthesizer, and everything it does sounds really really good.
I'm extremely surprised over the low price. I mean, 2 osc + Moog Ladder filter for 679 dollars?!

AG, are you selling out??!
No seriously, if I had to buy a bass machine, I'd probably get this over any other current option since it seems to just kick in the guts.

Re: New Moog apparently...
this looks great, i cant wait to get my hands on one. cheap, means i dont need to buy a moogerfooger filter that ive been saving for too
will need to reshuffle my desk space though, bye bye monotribe hello moogy.
this midi to usb business, so i can sequencer the thing in logic for example with the thing plugged into the usb right?
also is there a planned vst software to go with it? anyone know. im real exited about this on

A software editor was mentioned in at least one of the NAMM videos on YouTube.rorym wrote:also is there a planned vst software to go with it? anyone know.

Re: New Moog apparently...
Thanks for the kind words, guys!
Ha ha "selling out?" Yeah, my hipness is at an end. Now you can say "Yeah, I was watching AG back when he did his videos 4:3 on iMovie with extreme mp4 compression made worse by YouTube's horrifying mid-aughts compression scheme."
The LP is completely different. The Minitaur has less functionality, but an infinitely bassier bass.

Re: New Moog apparently...
The videos on the MS-20 were very helpful, altho I did notice a few times that the iMS-20 seemed to be nowhere close to the sound from the same setup in the video, altho I could have also missed some setting at some point. Still, always nice having good quality videos and I agree, the Minitaur video fit the bill as well.Automatic Gainsay wrote:Ha ha "selling out?" Yeah, my hipness is at an end. Re: New Moog apparently...
How does the Minitaur do with quick staccato sequences? In the video around say.. 0:46 it seems like the attack might be a little soft?
Also if the external in goes through the VCA (which I imagine it does) - for a noise source just find a radio or an old CRT with an audio out and set it to one of them snow channels

It should be noted that this filter is somewhat different than the MF-101, but as best I can hear it still sounds like a Moog and a half.rorym wrote:means i dont need to buy a moogerfooger filter that ive been saving for too
Re: New Moog apparently...
the minitaur looks like stripped down little phatty to me
