Boss SD-1 overdrive with Minimoog?

Post by roh » Fri Jan 06, 2012 8:53 pm

Hi - has anyone had success with the classic Boss Super Overdrive pedal and the Mini model D?

Or similar guitar pedals?
Seeking a smooth, hard when pushed, but warm distortion, not super ugly. (ie for trance, tech house styles)

cheers
Roland

I've had really good results with both my Colorsound overdrive and Biyang FZ7. That's not with a mini moog, but just with synth leads in general. The SD1 might end up a bit reedy.

I use an Ibanez tube screamer with my Voyager Old School, to push its sound closer to your mini, haha- a model d's inherently dirty, so to make it nasty, I'd use a good bass distortion stompbox, but that's just me...

Using the Boss Mega Distortion now - pretty killer!

I haven't used it with a minimoog but with an MG-1 and it did work pretty well as there is a tone dial to get it just so. I found my ds-1 for $20 so I guess you should just pick one up off of Ebay and try it. If you don't like the tone there are tons of mods you can do to get different tonal characteristics out of a DS-1 that are online if you're into that thing. Also, I have a Way Huge Pork Loin that can get really warm, slightly dark overdrive tones. The main difference between distortion and overdrive tends to be the amount of distortion and overdrive is warmer, distortion is sharper. Just take your minimoog to a guitar shop and try some stuff out if there's one close.

I had the same search a few months back. Finally ended up with a Big Muff Bass for that sculpted overdrive fuzz. I really like this pedal due to the fact it has a switch with can shift it from regular Big Muff to Bass.
