Synths everyone has used?

Post by Alex E » Sat Jan 14, 2012 12:06 am

Meaning, ones that everyone has either owned/used/played at some point in their lives.

For example: the Juno-106.

Any others you'd add to the list?

All depends on your age. I've started with FM on computer soundchips, followed by a JW50 (a Sound Canvas with a sequencer).

So, that's it: 'computer-age FM' and 'Sound Canvas'.

Depends on how you define "used," I guess. I mean, I've never recorded or performed with a Moog Little Phatty, but I'd be surprised if there was a member of this forum who hasn't ever messed around with one at a Guitar Center (as I did).

If you're asking for a list of commonly used/owned synths, some to add are:

Korg M1
Roland D50
Yamaha DX series
Korg Triton series
Various Moog synths sold well, but probably not as many as the above.

I'm sure there are more to add...

I take it back... I had a CZ-5000 back in the mid 90s for a red hot minute, it never quite worked right... then I bought a CZ-101 off Z and had that for about a week.

So, Am I reinstated now?

I don't think everyone has used many of the synths you list.

I'm not sure the intention of this thread is to list every synth you have used/owned, but rather to name a synth that might have been used by everyone at some point (OP correct me if this is wrong).

Back to topic, how about Minimoog & Casio VL-1 (probably only applies to people of a more vintage age ;) )

I'm thinking DX series, too. Either that, or a PC loaded with some freeware softsynth.
