Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
The TX81Z had one called "LatelyBass" used on countless recordings over and over. It is like the acme of short bass sounds, I could audition the sound by itself for hours and still not get tired of it. The DX-27 had one similar I think was called "Solid Bass" but I'm not sure. I can't remember if the DX-7 had an equivalent it's been so long since I've owned one. Here at 2:22...

Yep, I've always found the JX series (JX-8P, JX-10, MKS-70) presets to be quite good. And I know there are plenty of fans of the D50 presets (never played it myself). Roland definitely had some very high quality programming there in the mid 80s. Is this all Eric Persing?tunedLow wrote:I like my JX-8P's presets.

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
Like previously mentioned, the D-50 presets actually does a good job of displaying the intended capabilities of the synth. Some of them are even quite pleasant-sounding and usable in a lot of settings.
The Prophet '08 also has quite a few well-made presets - some made to push the boundaries of the architecture, others to give the perfomer a good baseline for his/her own patches, which I think is essential in preset design.
On that note, I would also like to mention the Roland JP-8080. Not just for the ridonkulous amount of presets, but quite a few of them are really well-made and show the potential of the synth really well.

I have noticed that you did not mentionned the 3P and for good reasons. Its presets are very worst I've heard; So tame, so so tame!!
I like the preset on my sh-1000. It has one super deep/dirty bass.

How many good members of VSE are from the Province of quebec? I think you are actually the first one I have seen. It would be good to know for the Trade/etc section.

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
The big three used teams of programmers, mainly from US and UK. I'd like to know exactly what Persing did though. And it would be interesting to find out exactly when the big three decided they should get in programming teams. The DX-7 is the first synth I know of where they got a gaijin to do the presets...CfNorENa wrote:Is this all Eric Persing?

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
Preset 11 and 62 on the Prophet VS (choir, stewkey) are just bloody perfect, beautiful, classic and does the board justice and it's special synthesis justice, to say the least.
D-50 sounds too, even though they sound quite dated.
The JP-8000 had some really useful presets too, especially the lead sounds!

MINI-M on an Ensoniq ESQ-1 is pretty stellar.
As is WAVBELL.

I'll be thinking about funk next time I browse them. Thanks for the suggestion!
Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
Korg Prophecy without a doubt.
Yamaha FS1r had a lot of interesting patches along with some cheese.
Original Korg Wavedrum blew me away too - the new one ... not so much.

I always liked the Taurus-style preset on the A6.
