Synth Used in "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover"
Ever since I was a kid I always thought the Pad sound in this song was killer. I think its a Roland, but not sure. Anyone have an idea? Google isn't helping. haha

Oooh nice programming whatever synth it is. Sounds like while the lowpass filter is sweeping DOWN, while a slow LFO or something is bringing UP the resonance. Hadn't heard that song in a while.

Here she is on TOTP singing it. Can't identify the synths though.

Looks like a Roland D50 on the top and a Roland A90 on the bottom tier.

Yikes that version sounds really close to the studio version
Notice they're not playing that D50, which would have been my guess to make that sound.

Just thought about this - you asked "Synth Used in "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover". The keyboards used in the video could be anything but. Does that make sense? Just because it's a certain synth in the video dosen't mean it was the actual synth used on the recording.

TOTP would sound like the studio version b/c ppl are generally required to lip synch on TOTP.garranimal wrote:Yikes that version sounds really close to the studio version![]()

To me sounding exactly like the studio/radio version usually the first clue anyway.SSquirrel wrote:TOTP would sound like the studio version b/c ppl are generally required to lip synch on TOTP.garranimal wrote:Yikes that version sounds really close to the studio version![]()

It's possible, but I agree it doesn't automatically mean it is. Check this video especially at the first. D50 can be quite ethereal like the song. Also notice 'damn' uses another digital-sounding attack timbre.White wrote:Just thought about this - you asked "Synth Used in "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover". That sounds like a D-50 factory preset called "Staccato Heaven." Given the song's release year, I wonder if there might be something similar on a subsequent Roland release such as the D-70.

Re: Synth Used in "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover"
The Synth player on this is Peter Wood who passed away in 1993. He co-wrote "Year of the Cat" and played keyboards on Al Sewart's recordings and is also credited with playing Memorymoog on Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual" album among his many high-profile sessions. Wood had a long association with Roger Waters playing on the first Wall tour in 1980 and the 1990 Berlin performance. More info here and video of the 1990 Wall show showing him with a Prophet 5 rev.2:
