Re: Make high quality digi synth sound Exactly analogue
You will never be able to replicate an analogue sound from a synth with software as each sound coming from an analogue synth is so different from model to model. h**l, even the sound from the same synth may slightly vary from itself depending on outside factors.
I think you need to get a cheap digi synth and listen to the raw wave and filter it, then get a cheap analogue (monotron should not break the bank) and do the same. Although you are only going to hear the difference between these two synths, other digi and analogue synths will probably sound even further away from each other to the point you may not tell which is analogue and what isn't anymore.
In short... It will be possible for people to create random algorithms to replicate the random stuff that happens to analogue circuits but it will not sound like any one synth it will just be replicating what is possibly going on.

Re: Make high quality digi synth sound Exactly analogue
It all boils down to:
1) No one of your potential audience cares. Not for bare unattended sawtooths, not for any difference there may be between those sawtooths.
2) If, as a producer, you spend your time watching an oscilloscope to see if there's really no difference between the sawtooths of two synths, then you've got too much spare time anyway.
3) If you have four sawtooths which sound mostly identical apart from the last few percent, and if you rank them beyond being practical because of that, then you're just not creative enough. I couldn't care less about all these details. Give me 'some' oscillator/operator (I don't give a rat's a*s whether it's digital, VA or RA) and I'll manage.

Just get one of these:

They sound amazing and you get your analogue sound for real cheap $50 new!
Best of both worlds?

Plenty of people out there making great stuff ITB, plenty of people using hardware and making great stuff.CS_TBL wrote:It all boils down to:

The aim is to make great stuff and however you get there is down to preference.
