TG33 + SH-32 = $ CHING $

Post by man-009 » Tue May 01, 2012 10:39 am

what the h**l is going on? last year a Yamaha TG-33 on ebay went for about $65 bucks. now they are selling for $249- $275!.. wtf!!!!
also, Roland SH-32, i paid $150 for one last year. now they are $329-$350!..wtf!!! not long ago i sold them thinking if i need them back, they are cheap no prob..WRONG!. people, you need to stop buying these kind of synths for crazy prices! otherwise we can never get them back..lol. from here on out i don't sell any of my gear! lesson learned. if we all stop buying synths at crazy prices they are bound to come down in price!..well, you would hope..

Well that sucks. I was planning on buying a SH-32; it's a pretty good synth for the price!

I can see why the TG-33 is going up; to me, it seems a better deal than the DX-7 (unless you just want to have it for the sake of saying "I OWN A DX-7!!!1!!"). 32 voices of polyphony, 8 part multitimbrality, 128 presets and 64 user patches? And it's about the size of a rack-mount! You may need an external controller, but you can just use any keyboard with MIDI out to use it! Who wouldn't want it?

It may just be a temporary jump in price. No need to get too excited. And while these are more popular than they have been, it doesn't mean you cant find something similar very cheap. Like the yamaha tx7 that I bought earlier this year. It was pretty inexpensive still. Next month, there will be other trends. They are all too expensive though ;)

Everyone of us has probably bought at least one piece of gear just because it was insanely cheap. The world is littered with low-end instruments that are in low demand. I was at a local GC (not known for great pricing) the other day and saw a Roland D-110 for $40  That's pretty rock bottom. Are we poised for a low-end Roland L/A craze? No more $15 MT32s?

When the TG33 was in that company it was a good deal. When people started talking it up guess what happened: YouTube videos and lo-fi artistes name-checking it. Up goes demand.

I was in the buy and sell cycle for much of the early 90s, there was a lot of first gen digital being turned over as well as low-end x0xes, Korg Polys, ARP Omnis, etc. I couldn't afford $2000 for every new machine that arrived (and it was 1 or 2 every six months for 10 years) but the $100-200 space was full of cool stuff which has gone up in value. 20 years ago teh netz was limited to email and USENET groups but now things go viral.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

I've had two SY22's ($100 and $79) and one TG-33 ($75). I always wanted to like their sound, but I always ended up letting them go because they're way too cheap sounding for my taste. Like Kawai K1 cheap sounding. Good riddance.

Thanks again for it, haha.
I was glad to try it again. Sold it to Ashe for the same price and he hasn't flipped it.

It is, I dug very deep into the machine but found it limiting.
To me, the Wavestation is way more interesting.

Are TG-77s still around $200? If so, buy now. Much better sound quality than a wavestation.

Just last week there was a 250$ TG33 on the local classifieds. I paid that much for a rarely used SY77 w/extras.
SY22s go for half that price around here.

There was a TG33 hype on this board 2 years ago. I got one and sold it back whithin a few days.
From the same line, the RY30 drum machine is much more useful IMHO.
