Geoff Barrow from Portishead-new synth project

Post by Logan 5 » Thu May 17, 2012 6:37 pm

Last night I had the extreme pleasure of attending the debut performance by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury of their "soundtrack" to Mega City One.

It was a vintage synth drool-fest with no less than THREE Oberheim Two Voice synths,a Juno 60 ,Korg 700s and sequential Drumtraks.
Needless to say the sound was immense.

The gig was a free event in London's premier comic shop Orbital.
Here is a pic of the Oberheims:

The album is available in various formats and you can hear it here:

They are definitely channeling John Carpenter and Alan Howarth!!!

Thanks for posting this. I listened to some last night and enjoyed what I heard.

Adrian Utley is the Portishead member I would have first thought of doing something like this (there are some great vids of him on SonicState), not Geoff, but then I don't follow them that closely these days. Probably about time I gave them a listen again, it's been a few years

I'm listening to the music right now. Sounds great! You're so lucky to have been able to see it played live with that gear!!

So glad you guys are enjoying the album-when they played in the store the volume was very loud but crystal clear,so the frequencies just went straight through my body and the whole experience was pretty intense.
They told me that they hope to maybe develop the live show and do it elsewhere-this was a small event(though packed to the rafters) and just an experimental thing for them, but hopefully others may get to see them play in the future.

I love this album so much!!

Heard it in my local record shop, and bought it a few days later and thought it was incredible.

Got my Mega Edition of it this morning, and it's shweeeet!!!

Absolutely love this record, it's freaking huge. Didn't know they were doing shows for it!
