I don't have a facebook account, but I am assuming that they are going to discontinue then MEK. I wonder why...
Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
Heh, and I JUST traded away an MEK this AM. Brilliant timing as ever.
All good though, it eventually made room for a Poly Evolver.

The more interesting question is what the next new DSI product will be.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Man I am really GASing for one of those blue monsters. I guess the used market probably won't be to good for buyers once they run out.... What can I put on the auction block?....

I'm hoping for now they concentrate on finishing the promised Tempest features and flesh it out even more with user samples, etc. But yeah, it will definitely be interesting to see what Dave develops next.meatballfulton wrote:The more interesting question is what the next new DSI product will be.

Mhm, people who own them will be holding on the them for about a year, then sell them hilariously overpriced because they're not available anymore.
Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
Bums me out a little. For me, that and the LP represented the return of the "affordable" analog keyboard. I actually thought the PEK would go out of production first. This new round of even cheaper analogs (Minibrute, Mopho, Minitaur...) probably puts a big dent in the marketplace.
Hopefully it does mean the Tempest is selling well and taking up their resources.
@Bitexion: Mine's a keeper, but if you ever want to come crawling to me with huge wads of cash, drugs, women, whatevers, we'll talk...

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
I think the reason they're discontinuing it is that most people overlook the digital portion of the Evolvers, which I think is the most interesting and cool part of them. If you're not into the digital side then the Mopho does the job for cheaper and is a more modern design.
I would hope that the Evolver 2 idea that I've outlined a few times (no analogue oscs, sample voices, incredibly flexible sample modulation) would be the next thing they'd bring out but I can do almost all that with the Octatrack now so it doesn't really matter.
I've been thinking hard about selling my MEK as it's not in my core setup any more. I know that synth like the back of my hand but I've been feeling like it's time to let it go, I'm not sure how this information changes what I want to do.

I've had my PEK for about 1.5 years and I still get lost!Stab Frenzy wrote:I know that synth like the back of my hand

Banks 1-3 = a room full of monkeys with typewriters
Bank 4 = kids, stay out of that room, it's for company...
Not that it ever seems to stay that way.

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
As soon as I read the Evolver was being discontinued, I sent an email to DSI asking about the availability of PE Kits and spares.
They promptly replied, here is the message:
"Thank you for your inquiry, I would be happy to answer your questions. While the Mono Evolver Keyboard is being discontinued, we will continue to produce the PE conversion kits for them. They should be available indefinitely for the foreseeable future. All of our instruments use the same pots as those on the PE MEK, so there will be no shortage of parts.
I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you for supporting DSI!
Thank you,
Carson

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
All the facebook comments request a Tetra keys version... Isn't that basically a Prophet '08 ?? I miss my MEK.

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
People want a poly analog synth for under a grand. DSI has already said before that they won't do it because it would cost just slightly less than the Prophet.sequentialsoftshock wrote:All the facebook comments request a Tetra keys version... Isn't that basically a Prophet '08 ?? I miss my MEK.
