Could you sell a Jup 6 and still buy everything?

if anyone wants to swap their jupiter-8 for a whole bunch of less expensive stuff, we might be interested in working out a trade. :)

My way to hapiness is to never think about the value. Or what I could get insted.

I have no nostalgic connetion to the Jupiter, its just my favourite synth.

Sold 2 Jupiter 8's. Very over rated to be honest, far better poly synths out there.
You always want just one more Synth!

Since I haven´t got a Jupiter 8 I could sell, I can´t answer this question adequately. But yes, I´ve often been tempted to sell some other heavyweight... not to buy anything new, just to save me from hauling it around with every new removal.

The only synth I´ve ever seriously pondered selling is the RMI Harmonic. Alas, no-one wants to trade it for a Korg PS-3200/3300 ;-).

The Jupiter 8 is a beautiful instrument, but I'd rather spend the same dough on a CS-50, Prophet 5 and Minimoog. In fact, that's exactly what I'm gonna do...someday.

i sold mine maybe 2 years ago, was a great sounding synth, but i get so much more use and enjoyment from my serge modular system that it helped me fund

Bumping in the wake of recent gear announcements...

As Jupiter-8 prices continue to rise, I'm starting to think about this. Even after taking it in to fix the quibbles, I would come out ahead when I sell at market prices.

But - the Jupiter-8 was the sound I was always dreaming of, and the sound in my head. Or so I thought...Synthmania.com / Mr. Varaldo at Gearslutz posted a bunch of Memorymoog and Jupiter-8 clips challenging users to tell which came from which, and I failed miserably.

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electro ... 8-a-5.html
I wrote:I did this before seeing the answer key. I can't believe I got only 2 and 10 right. I just guessed that whichever ones sounded better were the Jupiter-8. Apparently, I prefer CEM over discrete oscillators. But when I go back, I can really hear the Roland filter.

Some notes:

- 2 really missed the mark trying to imitate Jupiter-8 strings - the 24dB filter dulled it vs. 12dB filtering from Roland's patch sheets on your site.
- 6 and its pitch envelope just sounded like the thing you use a Jupiter for.
- 8 sounded really Oberheim with the wide open filter and notes sliding all over the place.
- I recognized 10 as having 23 ECHO PIANO.
That was before I bought my Jupiter-8, having passed up a Memorymoog for $1,000 less. With the Jupiter in my hands, I had confirmed my initial bias. The magic is in the oscillator-filter combination and especially the 12dB mode, which gave it a leg up on the MKS-80 I had previously (traded it for a Voyager RME).

Were I to sell the Jupiter-8, I would be able to buy the Synthex reissue, the Prophet-6, and maybe the CEM chips to get my OB-Xa back to eight voices, with a little to put back into savings afterwards. What the Jupiter did for me would be done by multiple instruments.

Complex and highly modulated sounds: Prophet-6
Big eight-voice pads and comping: Synthex and OB-Xa
IR3109 flavor sounds: SH-101, Juno-60, and JX-3P

Alternatively, I would dive into the world of modular thanks to Roland's new Eurorack modules.

If I don't sell the Jupiter-8, it's not like I'm pressed for cash. I would probably be able to buy the Prophet-6 or a base System-500 voice setup near the end of the year, and the CEM chips in the meantime. I would pass on the Synthex because I'm on the fence about it. Please, convince me not to sell the Jupiter-8.

Sell it before the reissue drives prices back down!
