How many of you still have your first synth?

Post by ColorForm2113 » Wed Feb 06, 2013 4:14 pm

...And what is it?
i do, its my micromoog. but it has been getting used less and less lately and i have been considering letting it go to fund new gear (minibrute/ms20 combo, subphatty, or analog4...or perhaps starting a modular :help: )

every time i think im going to sell it though, i get all sentimental "aww its my first synth...you were the one who started my obsession" am i crazy or does anyone else through this too?
My modular so far: Q104, Q106, Q107, Q108, Q109 x2 , Q116, Q118, Q127 w/Q140, Q130, STG Wave Folder, playing with Moog Voyager, VX-351, CP-251, MF-104M (x2 STEREO!)

My first synth was a Jupiter 4. It never worked very well, so it got sold.
Still have my second synth though. A korg M1. Had it for 23 years now. Never gonna sell that. Probably couldn't if I wanted to anyway, since it's pretty battered.

You should keep that one. It's one on those that's more useful than it first appears.

I have my first synth, sort of. It was a Korg X5 rompler, and I still have the rack version, the X5DR I traded the keyboard version in for. I still like the harp, the choir, bells and pads, and the rack has the M1 piano for house chords!
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

i know it taught me a lot about subtractive synthesis (and how with enough knob tweaks you can subtract Everything) when i do bring it back out i fall in love again...i think i just need to play it more. but you know how it goes when you get NAMM GAS

yes. Ensoniq SQ-80
EDIT: WRONG! My first synth was a Multivox MX-2000 - which I still have.
Also still have the Hammond Solovox that started me down this rocky road in 1954.

I don't, sold my Juno 6 long ago. Pretty satisfied with that decision still.

Crumar Trilogy.

Mine's not working and in pieces in my shop... someday... maybe.

I've had half a mind to just part it out since cosmetically it's pretty beat and needs quite a bit of work and replacement parts.

I dunno, I'm torn.

I still have and use my first synth, the Poly-800. I still get plenty of use out of it, so I keep it.

honestly can't remember if the Juno 60 or the Korg MS2000R was my first proper synth, I owned both at roughly the same time. want to say it was the Roland since I recall not being entirely satisfied with the range of sounds I could get out of it, which prompted me to look at the Korg. anyway, whichever one it was I no longer own either, the MS kind of stopped working after a couple of years and due to limited space I sold the Juno a couple of years following the demise of the Korg.

Sort of. my first synth was a Little Phatty Stage I. It's gone, but I now have a Stage II, which I'll never get rid of.

Me too, since 2001. I actually sold it on eBay recently after it died, but the guy I sold it to was a modder, so it's coming back resurrected with nifty mods!

So yes, I will have mine again soon.

I sold the original on over 20 years ago, but I have a working Roland S-10 and a S-220 rack with all the original factory disks. What the h**l, they were cheap.
