Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
a new Juno-106, thx to a trade-in from a Casiotone 701. These days, has a small handful of missing sliders and knobs (got replacements, haven't installed) but to my credit I managed to hold onto it (Almost sold it on two separate occasions).
However, recently a (cheap!) Juno-60 fell into my hands which admittedly I like SLIGHTLY more ... no need to own both, dunno what to do. #firstworldproblems

First synth was a MicroKORG. I don't have it anymore.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
korg ms2k, and no... being my first synth and first 'serious' instrument, i couldn't play anything yet, so it was all weird noises and 'what does this knob do?'. good times

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
my first set of keys was a korg x2. Save dup for two pay periods to buy it off some pastor in our local town. It was good then but I would set it on fire these days. My first "analog" type synth was a jp8000 acquired roughly in the same time frame. Sadly, I do not have either anymore.

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
I first cut my teeth on a copy of Synth1 I downloaded in 2007. I was just using it on a track the other day so yeah. In a sense...First hardware? no. MK long gone.

Still have my first hardware synth (Korg M1). Also still have my first sampler: A Casio SK-5 that I've had for about a quarter of a century now.

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
I'm kind of in the same position as the OP. My first synth, a Yamaha SY22 is in the hands of a friend now, but my second synth, an SH101 (now with grip and original strap) which I've owned for 20 years (cost me 50ukp in 1993!) is now about to be traded for a Pro 1 and a bit of cash. I've used the SH101 at many gigs etc, but have got a bit bored with it recently, hence the possible trade...but my sentimentality about it is making me have second thoughts.... don't do it, or do it??

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
First synth was a MicroKORG.
Wow. I wasn't even going to respond to this thread since I came so late to the game, but uh, yeah microKORG here too.
I picked one up in Sam Ash when it first came out. Shameful how I didn't even know what it was.
I player around with it, liked it and bought it. Simple as that.
And so, all this nostalgia has made me dust it off and plug it in.
Unfortunately, it has a short in the power port and keeps turning off when you wiggle the cable.
Off to the shop it goes as soon as the snow [New York] clears.
I remember posting on a forum that KORG would make a boatload of money of they made a bigger microKORG.
Someone sent me a link to the MS2000.

If they'd release the MK engine in a VST i'd probably buy it, it was actually capable of some wicked little sounds.

it seems like a goofy thing to put so much thought into but emotional bonds can be made with these instrumentsomvibes wrote:I'm kind of in the same position as the OP. My first synth was a Casio SK5 in 1988, I have no idea what happened to it.
But I remember having so much fun sampling stuff with it.

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
I first bought a Roland JP-8080 with a Korg K61 controller. The latter is now in the bin because it broke, but the JP soldiers on. I've considered selling it on a few occasions, but I'm not sure I can ever bring myself to it. Right now I use it far too much to justify it.

Still have them: as you can see, I'm sort of an hoarder of synths...
I first started with a yellow Kaossilator from a pawn shop in 2009, then 6 months later got a Roland D50 and a JX3P the same week while browsing local ads (very nice pair to start, I'd say). Very few things got sold since then, and most of them because they had a defect I could not fix.
