I don't think that VCOs or DCOs cost anything to make.
The money goes into interface, casing, R&D, advertising.
Moog is better build, however BS2 is better than "good enough". Moog has those silky smooth knobs and metal construction. Also look at Moog's advertising, they make music videos with invited bands in their studio. Look at the endorsement they have, all those big stars. Someone has to pay for it.
As far as I know DCOs weren't invented to cut the costs of the VCOs. If anything, I would expect that DCOs are more expensive.

DCOs are cheaper to make and more stable than VCOs, that's a fact.

That's a shame & somewhat of an oversight I feel, it's shouldn't be rocket science to make filter tracking adjustable, even if only via a selector switch (Off/Half/Full). I was quite keen on this until I read that bit.

Yes, the switch would be nice, but they had to stop adding features at some point. I think that filter FM is a big part of BS2 sonic potential. To insure tonal results they needed to make the filter tracking perfect 100%. For any other ratios filter FM is just a clangorous noise. It's not even FM with non-harmonic operator's frequency ratio, the ratio would change from key to key.

Sounds good to me ;) and it would open up another whole world of sonic possibilities.

They didnt include cv/gate on this thing and heaps of people asked them about it, it was about keeping costs down

I emailed em when they announced it, and told em to consider including it in a future revision and they said they'll pass it on, hoping they included it in the last minute hehe

I prefer the sound of VCOs generally.

i'll be preordering this,
the more classic sound, sweet sequencer/arp, patch storage, usb power and midi implementation make it a winner over the minibrute for me.

pjablon wrote: As for the sound, I must say I like it very much. It has this Roland flavour with the pinch of Moog. Very liquid filter, great for fart noises. Contrary to the initial impressions, not metalic or overdriven at all. No stepping or any other c**p as well. Filter tracking is set to 100% and cannot be changed but we can at least play the filter this way.
Thanks very much for all that info! This seems to be what I expected and that is all positive. Definitely going to get me one of these. :D The set filter tracking bugs me a bit but it can be dealt with some real time tweaking.
