I've seen a lot of these online modded with the red/blue switches.
who does this mod or where can I acquire them to do it myself?

It's not really a mod, just that the switches have been spray painted those colours. It's just a simple case of opening it up, removing the pcb board and painting the switches, if they are removable from the actual switch itself!

That Krylon Fusion paint works well. I tried it with some Moog Prodigy caps. Those were a bit easier to paint, as I had a full set of non-original caps to test it on. Plus those caps are removable. Went with the blue/orange switch scheme of the Minimoog. Still looks good years later, never wore off.

Always thought of the Prodigy as sort of a mini Minimoog.

krylon! that's what I meant. stupid auto correct

anyway, those look great.

did you find the plastic lost it's smooth, glossy feel?

did they become textured and grainy to the touch after having been spray painted?

Those painted caps came out smooth, looking like they were originally colored that way. Like any paint, it takes on the surface underneath. I did sand the tops with fine 600/800 grit paper. And the colors I used had a glossy finish. There were a few different angles to paint, so having them mounted on the end of a pencil helped to cover the whole cap and not miss any places. Not sure if I would have been able to paint these if they were still mounted on the Prodigy though? Lots of masking tape? But that Fusion paint does work well with plastic. I also painted an old Atari ST top with black paint and had good results. That had many fins and a rough textured surface. but the paint stays on.
The Prodigy looked pretty bad when I got it. Guess I refinished it back in 2005.

Always an excuse to post a pic of the Moog! I did add a few modules since that photo. Have since found the 904 B and C high pass filter and coupler. Along with an extra 911 envelope and the 911A trigger delay, and even found the 912 envelope follower. All circa 1969. Tough to find but they are out there if you look.

I applied two coats with a drying time between applications. Goes on thick like an enamel and I let them dry a few days before I tested them for durability. Looking at them under a magnifier, the blue is much glossier, with the orange more a satin finish. And due to the odd curved shape, there is a tiny bit of orange peel at the bottom on the one side of the curved end. But they don't look bad at all.
Even though the Prodigy was a somewhat expensive/valuable instrument, those caps were cheap. I got those Technology Transplant repros for about $16, and had a full set of originals. So my experiment did not have much risk. Would be nice to know if you can also remove the caps or buy a set of replacement switches to experiment with. Not sure I would take a chance painting them on the unit. Perhaps you could contact someone that did the mod. I was able to find Krylon Fusion paint in colors that closely matched the original Minimoog light blue and orange colors though. I thought the colors match better than Moogs new Voyager series with the dark blue/red they use.
Another close up.
