Regarding the realtime start and end point manipulation of samples, I wonder if it's possible to make it snap to transient peaks? That would be great for realtime breakbeat manipulation

If it's like the Octatrack you can slice the samples and switch between them easily, come to think of it the OT sounds like what you want for that rather than the rytm.

Yeah, I definately want the OT, as well Come to think of it, they probably haven't implemented this in the Rytm, saving such functionality for the OT. But great if it's there!

Yeah, I definately want the OT, as well Come to think of it, they probably haven't implemented this in the Rytm, saving such functionality for the OT. But great if it's there!

The Rytm's sampling capabilities are closer to a rompler's or a wavetable synth's. The only edit parameters are Tune, Fine Tune, Bit Reduction, Start/End, Loop, and Level. You can throw that edited sample into the filter and so on but there's not much in terms of mangling and slicing.

Elektron have announced they'll have both the RYTM and the Analog Keys at Gear Fest (this weekend). They'll also have a workshop on Saturday. It'll be the first time I've hands on either, so I'm looking forward to it.

Loving it. Looking forward to some extended play this weekend. I knew what I was getting into buying elektron preorder...there is a lot of work to be finished up on the OS.

Very earlier first impressions (4 hours or so):
It sounds very elektron (think MD) with an analog tone, go figure. I haven't played with an A4, I was surprised at the vanilla flavor of the filter. Bus OD is way better than I expected. Level adjustments all over the place= lots of tinkering till I learn the gain staging to get what I want. One LFO per track will not be as limiting as it seems. Trigless trigs are automatically added when live recording P-locks. 'Pads are tiny and stiff(should loosen with play).

That seems to be the consensus! I've been following all the discussions about the OS over on Elektronauts, so no surprise there. I'll finally get to get my hands on one in a few hours - can't wait!

Going well. I should have a snid-bit up later today or tomorrow. The compressor is an integral part of the sound design. My compressor skills are lacking; so, I should learn a lot but taking some time to get over the hump.

This is my third Elektron machine, and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. I think the sequencer is the best I've ever used. I like using the microtiming to move instruments slightly off grid by, say, a 64th note, which can make things interesting, particularly if you have another instrument that's exactly right on the beat.

Some of the preset kits sound really excellent. For example, I'm having a lot of fun with the "Psonic" kit. The effects are excellent, as with all Elektron machines. I haven't tried to load my own samples, but I'm just starting to play around with the pre-loaded samples. I'm just glad it has sample support at all.

One thing I will say: contrary to some people's belief, the RYTM is not an "all-in-one" groovebox. It's great for drums, but coaxing decent synth tones out of it, with the limited parameters offered, is a huge PITA.
