Roland JD-800/D-50 card compatible?

Can a Roland JD-800 read a D-50 PCM/CIA ROM card? There is a very interesting D-50 ROM card with some very peculiarly named patches on eBay right now. I have a JD-800 but not a D-50. Thanks.

Nope, not at all. They have totally different sample sets onboard so they wouldn't be compatible in any way.

That's what I figured, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. With patch names like "Biting the Mailman," "Binary Dreamgirl," and "Sugarplum Bum" I'm thinking this is too interesting to pass up. I might get it and then invest in a D-50 later.

They can't read each other's patches but they can of course use the same RAM cards - just to clarify. You just need to format (int > card copy) on either synth and it's then usable on that synth (though not ROM cards - as you are asking - as of course they are just incompatible patch data!)

You can even use the old Voice Crystal D-50 branded cards on JD-800 as I am right now (as a 64 memory patch card like the official M-512/256 cards)

That I knew, thanks. PCM/CIA cards are physically the same the same way that floppy diskettes are physically the same (if of the same capacity) even if formatted in different machines like Macintosh versus Windows.
