I need a rack. Any recommendations?

Post by Aaron2 » Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:40 pm

I've got a few pieces of rack-mount gear, and I've decided it's time to break down and actually buy a rack to put them in. I'm thinking that 8U or 12U or plenty for my current purposes. I don't need anything that's "gig-worthy" since I don't play gigs.

I was thinking about a RaXXes, like this one. Any other suggestions on a reasonably priced, good-quality rack for my home studio?

im suprised this was not the first response: http://www.instructables.com/id/8U-Rack ... AST-Table/

this is a very popular and common DIY project - if you do a google image search "ikea rast rack" you'll find a TON of examples

I have two of these:
http://www.7ballmusic.com/store/cases/r ... -case.html

They're pretty nice, and I couldn't find something that big for that price when I bought them (2 years ago).
They have a rack mounts on front and rear which is handy as I have a power conditioner on the back side of one.

I tie wrap the cables to the sides - audio on one side, power on the other, and the helps leave the middle open to see what the hells going on back there. It can be a mess with 24U of stuff in there.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. The IKEA Rast nightstand idea is intriguing. Not because of the price, but the fact that it's real, solid pine, and you could have a whole slew of them and they'd all match. There are tons of photos of these things being used as racks on the 'Net.

I'll have to do some more noodling before I decide. 8-)

And a little more expensive, but decent quality...http://www.nice-racks.com/slanted/
I am at a point in my life where I have literally no time, so sometimes it's worth paying for someone to make something that I should be able to make on my own...

definitely check out CL for deals. Racks are one of those things that people get and then need to get rid of but have a hard time moving because they're very specialized and too expensive to ship (saying this as someone trying to sell a Standtastic 3-tier stand and a 20U rolling rack on CL for MONTHS with no bites, and they're at 50% off!)
