:headbang: love to hear this! I find it really inspiring to hear of people going the extra mile and performing live with hardware.
For me it's not about going the extra mile to use hardware, I find hardware much easier to use live. I used to gig with a combination of Ableton Live and hardware in the band I used to play in (we were using Live for realtime vocal fx in about 2005, when computers were just fast enough to be able to manage it) and also when I started playing solo, but the lack of hands-on control of a laptop (even though I was controlling it with a launchpad and an MPD24) as well as not liking seeing other people playing live with a laptop made me change. When I used to use a laptop I'd always have the screen behind me and pointed toward the audience so that a) I wouldn't stare at it, staring at a laptop is the ultimate thing for disconnecting a performer and audience, and b) so that the audience could see what I was doing with the laptop, that it wasn't just backing tracks coming out of iTunes and that I was actually using it as an instrument.

All hardware for us, only computer on stage is an Akai MPC5000 sequencer. Live with a CS-80, PPG wave 2.3, JP-8, 2 x Prophet 5's, lots of Moogs, ARP's, Juno's, 27 vintage synths in all plus all the good Roland drum machines. Only non-vintage machines up there are Little Phatty and a Virus Indigo. No laptops or PC's allowed on stage.

That photo was on the stage at the Enmore Theatre so plenty of room. Good aircon there too so I gave the CS-80 a tune just as they began to load the audience and it managed to stay in tune for the whole show. It's quite the experience dragging a chord with that pitch ribbon down to a subsonic brown note and feeling the whole building shake, there are Nexo subs beneath the stage and I was on an 8 foot thrust so I was standing in front of the line array. No one's ever going to do that with a laptop and a VI :D

All hardware. No actual playing, of course.

A CS80 live on stage...

I´ll rest my case.

I specifically bought a CS-50 for live performance... and it kicked a*s in a number of live performances. It's not quite a CS-80, but I would take any shortcomings it has over having to actually bring a CS-80 to a venue and then deal with it. :)
