Right, but within the same brand, and similar monophonic specs, to suggest one will cost twice as much as the other is silly.

You mean like how the little phatty and the voyager are from the same brand and have similar monophonic specs and therefore cost the same price? Nobody knows what the price will be, to suggest one thing or another is silly.

My guess is that since they're reproducing an aesthetically timeless but technologically outdated piece of hardware, any components needed would be relatively cheap - provided they're not being obsessive about being "vintage accurate" and going after now-rare (and therefore expensive) parts.

I'm hoping for 800-900 USD myself.

Funny, I read the Korg Odyssey reissue thread over at Gearslutz, and around the same time people here were needlessly arguing back and forth over patch memory, they were needlessly arguing back and forth over how much it will (or should) cost...

Because of slider cost, I suspect it will at least be 1600.

Not really sure why you'd say it'll be pricey because of the slide pots- slide pots aren't inherently any more expensive than rotary pots (unless you attach a motor to the or stick an LED at the tip). I know original ARP-sized pots are NLA, but replacing them with something current would make zero difference in audio quality (and the size difference would be minute and likely unnoticeable). And even if Korg had pots made like the originals, that's not a big deal for a company of Korg's size and probably wouldn't affect the price much. I know Tom Oberheim had custom pots done for the reissue SEMs and he's a one guy with far less resources and buying power than Korg.

sliders are generally more expensive than rotary pots of comparable quality, and machining the faceplate for them is more involved than just drilling a hole of the right diameter. still, i dont think the sliders would be adding more than $75-$100 to the retail price, and probably something more like half that.

There are something like 33 sliders. I figure at $3 a pop, plus the additional cost of milling the faceplates, you're looking at $400-$500 or more. Simple maths guys. :music:

Where are you getting the $3 from, though? I can go on Digikey and get slide pots for like $1 apiece even without a quantity discount, and I'm not even a big hardware manufacturer. I'll grant you that the requirements for constructing a purely voltage-controlled synthesizer are probably more demanding, but still.

(Also, $3 x 33 = 99. So you think it's going to cost $300-400 more to put slits in the faceplate than holes?)

I'm just messing around...although sliders do cost more for the DIY builder, I doubt it will have much of an impact at all on Korg. When someone started throwing out prices, and then people assumed that the sliders I mentioned were the reason for the price, I couldn't help but have a laugh about it.
