I remember as a kid (I was around 7) the hypnotizing sounds of 'the Froese family' and then Kraftwerk, opposed to the carnal sound of Edgar Winter (first time I seen an arp 2600), YES, ELP. Even Mike Oldfield has a big place in my memory.
All of that sound wall made me escape from my home to literally live in instrument stores
Sometimes my parents were really worried - they started to think at drugs - and they were right, but was a drug I got through ears. In the meantime, many talks with musicians (store customers) and piano lessons (boring).
Then I started to work and earn money, and this was the end for my wallet. A lot of synths, samplers and drum machines came and go, since I was single. Then I married, kids appeared and... you know
I had to slightly limit my fury.
At least, my kids do know who the h**l Edgar Winter is...
However, my very first synth was a small Yamaha CS-01. I never sold it.
