We still need to hit the part where someone smarmily lectures us all on how anybody who disagrees with them on any point of anything from their stylistic preferences to their whole philosophy of art "can't call themselves a real musician."GuyaGuy wrote:In any case this thread has covered poly vs mono, digi vs analog, AND keys vs sequencers. When will we see a new (non-DSI) analog poly?

then we need a mod to close it, after getting in one last dig.commodorejohn wrote:We still need to hit the part where someone smarmily lectures us all on how anybody who disagrees with them on any point of anything from their stylistic preferences to their whole philosophy of art "can't call themselves a real musician."GuyaGuy wrote:In any case this thread has covered poly vs mono, digi vs analog, AND keys vs sequencers. Assuming, of course, that the mod isn't the one doing the lecturing.

The young upstart Robbie Moog ruined it all with his keyboard, now there's nothing but whippersnappers all over my lawn with their keyboarding while I'm trying to rock peacefully on my porch. Leave me to splice my tape in peace you kids!Re-Member wrote:Raymond Scott was creating sequenced electronic music prior to any Moog device having a keyboard, so it's actually the other way around and we should be making generalizations about that "Keyboarding Crowd."

Is this where I bring up the advantages of digital ear trumpets vs acoustic ones?

And if yah look at that there captured motion picture, you'll see him clearly moving a volume knob BY HAND to create one of them there pad sounds. I says it once and I says it again... there ain't no real soul in that LFO/Envelope Crowd trying to automate everything with their fancy envelopes and LFOs.Rezisehtnys wrote:Well, the first synthesizer had stacked keyboards. I would put my money on either Korg or Novation, or both, within the next two years.Ashe37 wrote:an analog poly? not from Novation. Korg , maybe... 'in the next few years'... but that's a long time in the synth world. A simpler but bigger synth from Elektron? would go contrary to their knob-tweaky- 'parameter lock' UI thing.

Re: When will we see a new (non-DSI) analog poly?
Novation could, but.... who cares... it would another DCO-based poly which wouldn't be dramatically different from the DSI stuff this thread was looking for an alternative to in the first place.alan partridge wrote:I would put my money on either Korg or Novation, or both, within the next two years.Ashe37 wrote:an analog poly? not from Novation. I disagree totally - the DSI synths and the Bass Station 2 are both decent-sounding synths, but more importantly they sound very different from each other. The more new analog polysynths the merrier, and there's plenty of interest.

Telharmonium was 1897, Theremin was 1928.calaverasgrande wrote:besides the Theremin was the first real synth.
