How many hardware synths do you own?
Pretty straightforward poll, just curious.
The missus keeps complaining about the quantity of synths in the studio, so wanted to see how I stack up.
Do I really have a problem, or am I chicken feed compared to a lot of folks?
I counted today and I have 20 which surprised me. I would have said a dozen or so off the top of my head if someone had asked.
Of course some get used more than others, but I love them all!

Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
You've a problem.
I used (used) to have about 30 (31? 32?) hardware synths ranging from the small (sh-2) to the immense (M5). I think there are still photos of that madness in the studio pictures thread (which probably also show in grave detail how small things are getting since just over a year ago). Things are quite slim these days, and soon to be even more slim. Unless things spiral further out of control, I've told myself that I'm sticking solely to eurorack for the forseeable future, and slimming down everything else to the bare minimum.

A paltry four. Had more but decided those ones were my favorites sound-wise.

Do samplers and drum machines count?
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

2nding this q, yeah, 3 to 9 is a big jump
Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
I'd say yes, samplers are synths with your own custom waveforms and drum machines are synths specialised for drums, they are both still synths.ninja6485 wrote:Do samplers and drum machines count?

Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
I've settled at six, which I think is my happy number: two analog monos, two analog polys, and two digitals, with complementary pairs (different filter types, different functionality, etc. etc.) in each category. It's already more than I need, so the "rule" is that something must go out before anything else new can come in.
Actually, it occurs to me that the whole "two items in each category" applies to my FX, too: two delays, two multi FX, and two reverbs. Hmmm. I guess this means I HAVE to get two Moogerfoogers now. MF-102 and MF-103, anyone??

Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
Not counting sequencers and fx, but counting samplers and drum machines, I came in at about 24. Half that without drum machines and samplers. There's actually a decent variety: 2 VAs, 2 DCO polys, 2 monosynths, 4 digitals(2 traditional, 1 transwave, 1 fm) and a 303. The only thing I don't have are big VCO poly synths, but you have to draw the line somewhere... For now!

This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
How do I calculate a Yamaha TX-816? It's one or 8 synths?
EDIT: Well, either way I bust the maximum answer... I have many small gizmos or stored synths that boosts the total!

Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
If I just count hardware synths (including drum machines and samplers) I have nine. If I include hardware INSTRUMENTS, the number jumps to around 20. And I have the opposite problem. A few of the instruments I own my girlfriend had to convince me to get them. The majority of them are rather cheap, though.

everything you see under my avatar is everything I've ever owned. I'm new to this compared to most of you. Moving forward I think I'm just gonna look for rackmount stuff.
