FWIW, only one arrived at one of his mega-shows on a boat:

Yes JMJ is a cheezbum roadblock

BUT

his pre-Oxygene recordings are totally f**k dope
~and~
he is the only one with the giant pockets AND cajones to tour(not just play a gig a two) with an arp 2500&2600, moog modular and memorymoog, rmi harmonicsynth, 5xSynthies etc
ALL ON THE STAGE AT THE SAME GODDAMNED TIME....that alone pretty much wins.

EDIT - holy sheeeit it's neck n neck pilgrims

Exactly, and it was a great show. I truly enjoyed it. Still put on the DVD from time to time.

They are both good and thats what the poll shows

I think he's giving all of you that voted to kill him off the finger!

I voted to kill off Vangelis. I love nearly all of Jarre's catalog, and as a fan of vintage synths, Oxygene In your Living Room is fantastic!

Indeed it is, I was at the OITL concert in Oslo, it was magical. They played all those vintage synths completely live, no sequencing, just 4 guys playing with both hands at all times. Sometimes 3, cos Jarre was more about communicating with the crowd, but that's normal. All those wonderful warm sounds and the soft lighting and mirrors going up and down over the artists. Complete bliss and a crowd that listened and applauded loudly at just the right places.
Like spontaneous applause in the middle of Oxygene 3 cos it just sounded so wonderful, the guys on stage almost looked embarassed.

The only sequencing was the obvious sequences from the respective songs. A couple of the synths even failed spectacularly, like the Moog Liberation keytar went whack out of tune during the long solo part on Oxygene 5.

He kept on playing and trying to adjust it but apologised for that incident after the song, giving a whole funny speech about how old these instruments are and they are bound to misfire now and then.

And when they closed the show with the Eminent at the front of the stage with Oxygene 13 I had tears in my eyes.

Vangelis is just doing his piano/opera thing nowadays, not much interesting for me.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the official rules state that in the event of a tie I will flip a coin to decide the winner. :thumbright:

Don't forget to TURN ON THE SYNTHESIZER. Often this is the reason why you get no sound out of it. - ARP 2600 manual, 1971

Wow, it's actually tied right now. I voted for Jarre, he's probably never even seen Blade Runner

LOL! +1 to all of that. The Rarities compilation has some amazing stuff on it, Aphex Twin can go jump. ;)

Can't believe JMJ won, the only guy I voted for in the pre-poll thread and the one I most wanted to die.

Why does everyone love him so much? He's a pretentious French wanker who lived of his rich girlfriends money and bought loads of synths and had like one record some general people might remember. And, and he's French, lest we not forget...

Gah. I hate him. I hate his music, and I hate him.

Oh. And "out of tune" != "warm".

Rant over! (I'm just peeved I missed all the fun voting action, I could have made a difference by trying to kill of JMJ every time, and now I've let this opportunity pass me by... Just a few minutes earlier, and I coulda at least made it a tie...)

Next game: which synth should we set on fire?!

[off to find the video where his Memorymoog breaks down mid-performance to cheer myself up... hrr hrr...]
