basic? so what. you could call Madonna's Like A Virgin, NIN's closer or MJ's Billy Jean basslines basic too.
it's the overall effect that matters. not necessarily how complex a patch or musical phrase.
seems to me people are too suspicious of anything that's new.
I did not say anything negative about the track you've posted earlier and neither will I say anything negative about the songs that you've listed in the above quote (btw, the Michael Jackson song is called "Billie Jean").
I just wouldn't consider the higher sounds involved in those synth lines to be a part of the bass line itself. What's present in the lower register, as the bass, is simpler than the overall impression the full arrangement provides.
Same thing if you would play the piano with the left hand doing some bass figures and the right hand playing the chords and the melody. Like on a composition such as "Watermelon Man" - obviously, not every note of it belongs to the bass.
I don't want to be too pedantic, but I really fail to think of those higher notes "as bass". There would be many other examples, but I ended up commenting on yours. The timbre is so different in the higher notes compared to the lower ones in the track you posted that it just stuck out.
