This is one of Roland's worst products. It's from the mid nineties I think. Definitely postdates the famous JX's of the eighties. It's digital sample based, somewhere between a U20 and a JD990 but with a seemingly tiny amount of memory. No editing. Best avoided.

It post-dates, not predates the earlier JX's. I think the engine is based on the JV 30 - from memory, 24 voice sample based, with TVFs, it's pretty ordinary. I played one, once - that was enough. It was billed as a "performance synthesiser", you could "tweak" filter cut off and res on the front panel. Woo hoo!

That was enough for the TB303

Oh yeah, $125 is top dollar. There are better digitals polysynths you can find for the same or less.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

yeah, I wasn't gonna get it. I have way too many synths that don't get enough love as it is, no need for a mediocre synth at best :D

Looks like the "JD-800 for dummies." No offense to any JX-1 owners out there. :empathy:

Main issue is that you can't let it rest on its side, which is likely to happen if you actually use it live to perform.

The first piano sounds like it's the U20/S330/W30 etc. piano preset.
