Behringer discussing making ARP Odyssey now

Post by ranzee » Tue Dec 23, 2014 4:23 pm

How would you feel if we build an authentic ARP Odyssey synthesizer, but with a unique 3-mode VCF circuitry (that replicates all MK I to III versions) plus full Midi/USB implementation? Price around US$ 500
Wouldn't they be better making an analog poly? I suggested an Elka Synthex or an ARP Quadra ...

Is this for real? Good way to get in a lawsuit with Korg ;)
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Maybe they bought rights from Korg? Recently Korg was rather silent about Odyssey.

Hmm, strange. It would have patch memory based on that mock up.

As long as it's good and I finally get it I don't much care who it's from, but I'm gonna be kinda cheesed off if this means Korg's release is cancelled and I have to wait even longer...

Out of all the choices Beringer would have to choose to reissue, why would they choose the Odyssey when Korg has announced it's intention to release it? Seems quite fishy and suspect to me.
With all this talk about N Korea hacking Sony, it raises suspicion Kim Jong and his merry band of hackers are at work here. ;)

I know--I'm getting ahead of the game. I'll clone the new Roland System-1 thingie and wait 30 years, then sell the rights to Behringer/Akai/Numark/Mackie/Panasonic and then also KORG so they can compete do a reissue of a digital synth built on the reputation of an analogue past WITHOUT patch memory! Can't think of anything that could go wrong with this plan...

The plot thickens! I saw this posted on Synthtopia back in mid November:

Update:

I talked with Rich Formidoni with Korg, and he told me that the Korg ARP Odyssey is going to be a mini version and Virtual Analog. I asked for more info, but he refused to tell me. You can probably email Rich and get the same info. They’re having to work out the rest of the bugs in the unit.

It will also be released on 5/2015. When I get more info, I will update.

One of their comments on the FB post is "we're also working on a poly Synth." So it looks like you can have both.

Okay, more important: who's next on the bandwagon?

How reliable is this source...?
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

I'd buy that in a second. It would make great pair with my Lel CZ delay. Just imagine - modulating waves of hiss and noise and you don't even have to touch anything.

I seriously doubt Korg would be dumb enough to make a VA Odyssey after getting such a warm reception for their ventures back into real analog.

Full analog, identical circuitry plus two additional filters plus USB, PPC, sliders for $500.00? Really this looks to me to be an attempt for Facebook likes. It's Facebook 101 - Ask a question to get engagement from readers. Toss out a question "How would you feel if..." and a photoshop drawing and watch the web light up and people visit their website and the company name get spread all over the music forums.

Seriously - A genuine physical re-build of the Odyssey plus all the extras?
