Looks like it builds some pretty cool new features, though--new HP filter, arpeggiator and poly sequencer + DSP FX and analog distortion. Sounds totally classic. Seems like it can go classic or go into new sonic areas also. But I'm biased. I've wanted a P5 for some time.Bitexion wrote:I wonder if it's a synth for nostalgics only, though. But for me, who never owned or played a Prophet-5, hmmm. Sceptical.

Yeah a P5 would be nice to have at some point, but the used prices were always way up there in the $3-4000 league.
And this new one will probably be in the same price class.

Re: Prophet 6
If there's one thing you can say for certain about Dave Smith, it's that he never builds anything just for nostalgia. That's why it's so impressive that he actually finally released another VCO design.

Re: Prophet 6
True. Although, it isn't quite as feature-laden as the P12, so maybe it won't be quite as high? But yeah, a true VCO poly is likely to fetch something in that range.Bitexion wrote:Yeah a P5 would be nice to have at some point, but the used prices were always way up there in the $3-4000 league.

Re: Prophet 6
Makes me wonder if Dave Smith got back the rights to the "Sequential" name, or if he had the naming rights the entire time and this is the first synth in a new "line" of stuff.

Re: Prophet 6
Used to have an A6. Kinda breaks it in two in sheer sound quality alone ... I really don't think it has anything to do with nostalgia ... it's more a direct connection and continuation to serious tonal integrity, user interface, and playing experience unlike a lot of things on the market today ... there's nothing nostalgic about that ...Bitexion wrote:I wonder if it's a synth for nostalgics only, though. But for me, who never owned or played a Prophet-5, hmmm. Sceptical. And I already have an A6
as for sound ... I mean it's a Prophet 6 ... it's directly linked to the 5 ... they did what everyone was asking for and better

Yeah, at least it will be out in stores that stock DSI, so I can actually play one physically. I've never seen a P5 in the wild (nor in captivity)

Re: Prophet 6
I think it'll be priced lower than that. After all, the Prophet 08 lists for about $2,300 (with a street price of about $2,100). Prophet 12 lists for $3,299 (with a street price of $2,999). I think this one will be somewhere in between, maybe on the high side of this range ($2,999 list?). I definitely don't think it'll be priced as high as $4,000.Bitexion wrote:Yeah a P5 would be nice to have at some point, but the used prices were always way up there in the $3-4000 league.

Re: Prophet 6
Oh man oh man. I've pretty much discovered where it is that I stop caring about price, because I'm goddamn well buying this thing even if it's $3K. I was figuring on picking up a JP6 in the near future, but if I can get something that featureful with that sound new and under warranty...oh man.
I would like to know, though, if it's going to have split/layer capability.

Re: Prophet 6
I wasn't expecting that, I'll be very interested if the price isn't stupid. Hopefully in the same region as a prophet 08. I much prefer this (and Moog's) take on the old instrument to the MS20 / Odyssey mini versions.

Re: Prophet 6
This and the new odyssey both sound pretty damn good to me from the first demos. The manafacturers are really getting close now. The analog part of the jdxi sounds almost exactly like a Juno or Jupiter too. Amazing stuff !vin14 wrote:I wasn't expecting that, I'll be very interested if the price isn't stupid. Re: Prophet 6
I've been salivating over the new analog synths being released but this Pro 6 and the K/Arp really got me!
Please let it be below $3K...

Re: Prophet 6

Although I imagine the name was a toss-up between the "Prophet-6" or the "Prophet-I've finally remade a VCO polysynth so shut up and buy it"
