Hopefully the software will have less glitches than their latest few offerings. Seems like they abandoned the P08 software updates with annoying glitches still intact.

If some of their other DCO offerings have 5 or more octaves, they may have intentionally limited the prophet 6 in order to preserve the marketability of their other products. Roland likes the top down model, where you have the flagship, and then the cheaper versions with less features; but DSI seems to like the different strokes for different folks strategy. "Interested in the nuances of technology for sound design? Try the prophet 6! Rather have more octaves and the ultimate players instrument? Try the prophet 12!"
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Good point!

And - I suppose when you look at the Nord Lead, it calls itself a lead synth even though its polyphonic and 4 octaves, so I suppose it's proof of the concept too.

Also remember the NL is loosely based on the P5 and is a really popular gigging keyboard, and nobody seems to mind that it's just four octaves.

Yeah the Nordlead claimed it had a "prophet" modelled LP filter.

I used to read that the An1x was also trying to emulate the Prophet 5.

I own both the NL2 and AN1x, and they are both fantastic, in their own way. NL2 is really solid - absolutely non nonsense. When you can make a very, very widely accepted synth, almost seen as a VA benchmark, without a single effect on board, you know you've done a good job.

The AN1x is just so bloody 'strong' sounding. It really is extraordinarily good. It can do a very convincing moog lead sound. It's so good, I just wonder if Yamaha used the same chip set in it as they did in the VL1? There's low aliasing too - for a synth from 1998 that's saying something.

Sorry to go off topic, just felt compelled to comment on these two excellent synths.

And actually - that's what comes across from the P6 demos - a no nonsense, solid and 'true' analogue sound.

P6 with Dave in new office. Mostly talk on features and capabilities. Still another 2 months of tweaking to go before release:

Man. I've committed to purchasing a Jupiter-6, so I won't actually be getting this on release or probably for a while after, but damn if it doesn't keep tempting me...

I won't be buying the P6 now :-( I was about to order a DSI synth today (I already have 2) but I have noticed that UK prices of DSI products have rocketed??? For instance I bought a Mopho desktop 7 weeks ago for £279 brand new and now they are £331??? Am I missing something here? Even the Prophet 08 has went up £300 or so

Isn't that J6 going to cost more money than the P6? Or are you getting another synth that needs work, like your P600 did? Did you ever get your P600 sorted out and fix your membrane panel? If so, did you end up liking it or what?

Aren't you getting a Korg Odyssey too?

Actually the JP6 I have lined up costs a bit less than the P6, and it's in good shape. I'm really happy about that, considering the ones on eBay are skyrocketing of late (a year ago they were going for what I'm paying for this one, now they're all listing for $3000+) I was going to be getting a Kodyssey, and I was considering putting in a preorder for a P6, but after quite a bit of deliberating I decided to go with the Jupiter because A. that extra octave of keys (four octaves isn't an absolute deal-breaker for me, but it does cramp my style a bit,) B. splits (and layers, if I wind up getting a Europa mod for it,) and C. if I'm going to pay more than $2000 for something, I tend to like it to be something that will appreciate in value over time (the same reason I'm driving a 1971 Volkswagen instead of a 199x Buick now.) Granted, it's not new and under warranty, but I can live with that. I'll just have to get a Kodyssey later (unless I decide to go all-out and pick up an original.)

(And I did get most of the issues with the P600 sorted out, particularly the scaling, but I never did get a replacement membrane panel because I was out of work and all but completely broke at the time. I wound up trading it to a guy in the area for a Moog Opus-3, which unfortunately has turned out to need significant amounts of work itself. Oh well, c'est la vie.)

I agree, the same reason I'm now driving a 1971 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T, instead of a 2015 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T! Both have similar bodies, grills, tail light panels and shaker hood, but the vintage, original, one is going to appreciate in value over time, much more! And I can live with it not being new and under warranty!

Too bad you are now Prophet-less.. Instead you are going with a gaseous celestial body of our solar system.
