Avalon Bassline: A new 303 variant DELUXE!

Post by shaft9000 » Mon Feb 09, 2015 7:15 pm

new from http://abstraktinstruments.com/

adds variable glide, another EG, extensive I/O options, extended pattern length and filter cartridge add-on(s), among other additions

audio is a bit grainy on yootoob but so far it looks like someone finally smacked 'er out the park...& a lil' birdy told me they're aiming for around $1k USD street :)

That's cool as h**l!!
Before watching the video, I was like I'll watch it, but probably won't get one, I don't need another mono. Especially not for $1,000, the most I've spent on a synth is $500.
But within a couple minutes, I wasn't so sure anymore!

 Another mono... ;)
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

I don't get what's funny... is it that I don't have a lot of them? If so, I never implied that I did, I said I don't need one because I'm (personally) good in that department right now. May get another sometime, but I'm thinking my next purchase will probably be something digital/hybrid and different from what I have (maybe a wavetable synth, I dunno) or a different analog poly.

The Avalon is such an awesome idea, though. 303 clone but with a sub osc, AD aux EG, filter cartridges, etc.

I can't believe there are still people building new 303 type synths. I mean, I think it's awesome, but I thought it's been pretty much nailed between the xoxbox and tt-303. All that being said, I can't help but think how cool it would be to have this new Avalon box alongside the 777. I would think that would cover any kind of acid sound a person could dream up. :) But, you know, try explaining that to my wife...

Sounds great though and the interface looks like a lot of fun.

Ah, I just read a bit more about the filter cardtridges on their website. Ok, this thing will be pretty awesome if they can stay at $1000 or lower and if the carts don't cost too much.

Much more than a 303 clone, it would seem.

it will sound a lot closer to the 303 than a revo does, i'd bet

i LOVE the revo for many reasons, but a thorough 303 clone it is not

............
to the TT-303 and x0xb0x comparisons.... this is being produced by the guy(s) that brought us the x0xi0 x0xb0x, one of the best builds for the x0x that you can/could buy. I am not going to assume, but hope that the purpose of Avalon is to offer what some have always felt the 303 could use, and to correct the slight shortcomings of the x0xb0x spec such as the laggy CPU, a PSU resulting in different attack/note-reset than original TB, goofy tuning stability, and some other minute differences.
If it turns out to not be anything more than a x0xb0x with some mods(which i doubt, but time will tell) in a groovy enclosure then...eh.

I'm hearing $949 US and cartridges $99 US a piece. Can't wait to get my grubby little hands on this. Very exciting indeed.
