Probably not. Coincidentally, though, I just pulled my Octatrack out of its box, which is where it's been for ages. I decided that I need to get off my tail and learn the machine. I have an MD UW, too, but I don't have a lot of practice manipulating samples. Long story short, I don't think I could come up with a decent submission in time.

I remember thinking the same way with an Alesis Ion sound design competition they posted years ago.."I won't get anything good out anyway so why bother". But then I thought why not, and sat down for a few hours, started from scratch and made a pretty awesome self evolving drone bass sound that used pretty much every feature of the synth, recorded an MP3 of it and sent that + the sysex file of the patch in.

3 weeks later I got a mail from them saying I'd won 2nd prize! The first price was an Andromeda A6, that went to a guy in Germany. But I won two studio monitor speakers worth $1000 each! (Alesis prolinear 720DSP) I still use them 10 years later as allround speakers :) They even made me go to the nearby Alesis dealer for a photoshoot with the speakers

It's not about trying to win anything, it's about pushing yourself to do more with these really capable machines. Who cares if you don't win, as long as you learn some new tricks.

This was super fun, really taught me a lot about my Octatrack.

Here's what I came up with:

link for iPads.
