One of many ...
EDIT: Man! I hadn't heard that Section 25 cut in ages. Sounded really good to me.

Oppenheimer Analysis (and minimal wave in general). More restrained use--not using the hip-hop/high decay 808 kicks. I really like the snares on this one too.

Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing."
Whenever people say, "Drum machines have no soul," I play this song to them, and they shut up.

The first 15 and final 6 minutes (although the final 6 minutes would be DMX almost exclusively).VCO8 wrote:Tangerine Dream - Poland (1984)
In fact, this album prompted me to buy an 808 again (and acquire a DMX as well).

I think mine has to be that one song. You know, the one where it goes boomp-tick-tick-tick-kchk-tick-tick-tick over and over and over.

It's even better on album because "Beneath the Blade" segues perfectly into it. Even if I'm just cherrypicking tracks I'll usually listen to them as one piece.Blue Monster 65 wrote:Man! I hadn't heard that Section 25 cut in ages. Sounded really good to me.
Best Factory band by far imo.

Single Cell Orchestra - Knockout Drops. 808 as percussion, and lead in so many ways.

Oh, yeah. "Sexual Healing".
I don't really like the snare. At least it should be doubled with something else. I often have hard time believing the 808 when used as such has been so popular even in mainstream radio, because it's about as lofi as it gets for snare sounds.
