March competition '15: New age-dolphin-crystal-healing songs
Ok! This competition has no instrument or processing restrictions!
Cheesy romper use and flaky subject matter is highly encouraged, as are serious attempts at the new age genre: everything from poking fun at Enya to crafting a brain wave altering relaxation tool based on occult numerology, if you're into that sort of thing.
All songs should be original compositions, and be around 3 to 10 minutes in length, but no more than 15 minutes.
Songs should be submitted by the end of March, and voting will begin the first week of April. We will use a SoundCloud account when it gets closer to the due date.
Participants are encouraged to use this thread to post examples, ask questions, and discuss the creative process behind their submissions. It would also be nice to have a head count to see who all is interested as we go along, but posting here first is not a requirement for submitting a track the last week in March.
If everyone's good to go, then we can begin immediately! And If anyone is interested, we can think up and post new age subject matter, and then if you're having trouble thinking of what kind of song to write, you can base your song around some of the ideas. A few off the top of my head:
Dolphins swimming through space
Crystal skull visions
A song encouraging positive intentionality
Aliens built the pyramids
Getting in touch with mother earth through hand drums
Whale songs over a digital pad playing Major Harmonies for 10 minutes
A suite comprised of miniature songs each about a different Chakra
Relaxation instructions set to music
A song written with the characteristics that accompany your favorite astrological sign

This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Does your track have to include the obligatory flute solo which lasts 90% of the piece's duration?
Must it include the sounds of light wind, water and chimes?
Can I lace my track with a secret binaural beat which causes the listener's chakras to vibrate at the same rate as a hummingbird's wings hovering one foot above a calm river on a bright and cold morning, and forces them to vote for my composition?

Re: March competition '15: New age-dolphin-crystal-healing s
You can only if you believe you can. Think of the intention in positive language, and repeat it 3 times as a positive affirmation. Now I'm going to count backwards from 10 to 1, and when I reach 1 you will be in a state of total relaxation, at which point you will repeat your affirmation again 3 times. "Ten... *Impossibly warm/airy digital pad begins*"
... And if there was ever a situation to use pan flute in a VSE competition, this is it!

This sounds like fun! I have an 01W with the Ethnic expansion card. I'll just record a few sustained notes on a half dozen presets, layer them on top of each other and call it a day.
It's so easy to slip into new age territory when playing the 01W. I usually try to make sure nobody else catches me at it.

Okay, this sounds fun. Let's do this.

Pan pipes or some other non-western blown instrument is preferable.SpiralMind wrote:Does your track have to include the obligatory flute solo which lasts 90% of the piece's duration?

I assume that entries aren't going to be anonymous?
Well, sounds fun though, will see whether I've time for it. Even though I could produce something like that quickly enough, I simply may not have the time.. :/

Can I take any track and just slow it down a 100 times, then put the flute solo over it?
