Korg Poly 800 my F is an A

Post by Tulsa » Sun Mar 08, 2015 4:00 am

HELP me out brothers... I have an Korg Poly 800, no mods. I have reset the patches to the original factory presets. So far so good. NOW my F is actually an A (440). This is a new keyboard to me so I need some expert help. Anyone know what this thing is doing and how I can get it right?

It's out of tune, move the tuning slider until it isn't any more.

Are you saying that the synth is out of tune on all keys or that just one (or all) F key plays A but all other notes are OK.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

If it is like my EX-800 the entire range has shifted. I never figured out why it did that.
(As I recall, the tuning adjustment was no help...not enough range to compensate.)

IIRC there's a trimpot inside which adjusts the range of the tuning slider, had to do the same thing on my bandmate's P800 years ago.

My Poly-800 has done the same exact thing! The whole range has shifted and is even quite flat. I can't even hard tune the f**k to match any of my synths! hahahahah. It's been a wallflower for years now...

Don't forget to TURN ON THE SYNTHESIZER. Often this is the reason why you get no sound out of it. - ARP 2600 manual, 1971

Here is a list of the P-800 trimpots and what they do. VR2 and VR5 are the ones replaced in the "Moog Slayer" modification.

VR1 - DCO Pitch adjust
VR2 - VCF Frequency adjust
VR3 - White Noise level adjust
VR4 - DCO Fine tune adjust
VR5 - VCF resonance adjust

Anyway, if all patches are out of tune, VR1 and VR4 are the ones to adjust. Center the tuning control on the front panel before adjusting these.

with the Service manual I found on line and all your help... IT IS WORKING GREAT!

Thanks weirdo for posting this and Tulsa for posting the question.
I have a Poly 800 MK II with same issue. I believe it has the same architecture as the Poly 800. I'll give it a go and adjust the trimpots.
Will post results.
Cheers
