Yet another modular on it's way. This was announced back in the fall as a Kickstarter program. It's supposed to start shipping in June at a price of $849 USD.

I didn't realise it was going to be so cheap! The Kilpatrick stuff is really excellent, this is a steal.

The Kickstarter donors are getting it for $700. Will banana jacks be the next rage? ;)

Nice name!

I've nearly been burned by phenol. At first it turns your skin white from contact and if you leave it on too long, your skin turns black when it is burned.

I dunno, it's a square wave through a lowpass filter pretty much the entire NAMM video..not THAT impressive haha

But I guess I'm spoiled, I am one of those "wall-of-modular" people he mentions.

Yeah I remember the discussions, looks like he moved the midi port to a better location :) The design looks interesting IMO, the envelope modes are rather clever.

If you visit their web page http://www.kilpatrickaudio.com/?p=phenol there are some videos that show off the synth a lot better than the NAMM one.

Good. NAMM videos generally suck. Some sound recorded in front of a speaker in a noisy showroom on a portable camera.

The better ones at least record the line out directly so there is no background noise when it's published. Sonicstate does that usually.

It sure is pretty, I'll give'em that 8-)

I agree.
Between the background noise and poor audio, it's very difficult to get an accurate depiction of what a synth sounds like.
Especially considering these products are all about how they SOUND!

This one is way more interesting. Where he just starts from nothing and build up something weird and wild. That's usually how I work with my modular system too. Strip it down and start afresh.
Don't really get how the envelope generators with arpeggiator output works.
And $869 for such a full-featured modular system is kind of ridiculous. A doepfer system with similar features would probably cost more than twice.

yeah, I liked that one.
It reminded me of the soundtrack to Logans Run or a John Carpenter movie. :)

I made a tutorial for beginners explaining subtractive synthesis and modular basic concepts. I demonstrate some basic concepts on the Phenol towards the second half of the video.
