I know we are relatively few in number, comparatively speaking, but do any of you ever jam with another synth player?
Do some collective midi clocking, and go to it like guitar, bass and drummers would? In my area its rare, but super every time i've done it!

I haven't, mostly because I didn't know any other synth enthusiasts in my area when I lived in Duluth (though I did see a post from someone else here who lives there, after I moved!) But now that I'm within an hour of Sacramento and day-trip distance from the Bay Area I suppose I should maybe give it a try sometime...

commodorejohn, my roomate and I are both from Duluth. I don't think we've ever met, but I think he bought a DW-8000 off you a while back. Anyway, yes, here in the Twin Cities there is a well-established electronic music/synthesizer enthusiast community, and most of us are well-acquainted. We get together every few months for what we call the "Twin City Synth Meet", where we bring a synth, or a friend, or both, and spend a few hours noodling around on each others' gear. Think of it as a bi-monthly, small-scale version of KnobCon. It's good fun, and I like having some of the guys over to the house sometimes to jam and just create improvised music. Not to mention my roommate is also a synth guy. I really love that about where I live.
Comparison is the thief of joy.

Ah yes, I remember that guy. Yeah, it would've been fun to get down to the Cities sometime, but unfortunately the point where I had acquired a few different fun pieces of gear to play around with was closely followed by the point where I became unemployed and couldn't afford a whole lot of extra driving, and I didn't get steady work again until I moved out here...

I don't know anybody to jam with. When I show my bandmates my rig or play them recordings they look at me funny

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

I'm a big fan of your music, and it would seem you have every bit of space in your songs pretty well filled(tastefully, and I don't mean overdone).elmosexwhistle wrote:I need to Jam with Marc Doty, I will attempt to make this happen soon.
So I doubt there would be very little room for his musical talents to fit anywhere.
But being a fan of both you and Marc, a collaborative jam would be something I'd love to hear.
As far as working with Marc, well, you sort of have in a way.
If I may, here is a video broken down in several songs, and I love them all.
Marc makes an appearance about 2/3 of the way into the video.
(If for any reason you'd prefer to not have this video posted, please let me know and I'll remove it elmosexwhistle)

I think when I'm collaborating with people I take a different approach, I don't need to fill fill fill and try and let something that I wouldn't naturally write happen.
That video was a laugh to make

I don't know anybody else who plays synth. I know a few drummers and a few guitarists, but no synth players.

Yes! My band Mangkind was strictly with 2 other synth/organ/keys players. We now live quite a distance apart, but try to get together once a year around our birthdays, which are all in February. The Aquarian sessions have been going on for 15 years.

I used to in the past but I grew increasingly tired with adopting my technique to theirs.
Sometimes I'm missing it, most of the time I don't.

I haven't played with other people since 2007 when I left a band. Concerts were too horrifying for me.
