E-Mu Excelsior ROM, what is it?

Post by gridsleep » Sun May 31, 2015 3:35 am

I have seen two E-Mu Excelsior ROMs for sale recently. One is at Perfect Circuit Audio, an AP530-00. The other is an AP534-02 installed in an E-Mu Emulator 6400 that was sold in an eBay auction. I cannot find any documentation on Excelsior ROMs anywhere. Creative have shut down their E-Mu and Ensoniq archive (SOBs); even though the web pages can be found surreptitiously, the file download server is off line. I have written Creative and they replied saying they passed the request on to their E-Mu specialists but I have not heard further in weeks. Creative have abandoned the E-Mu and Ensoniq legacy community. I will continue to search for some Excelsior documentation. If anyone has a clue I would appreciate some details.
Nymph, in thy orisons be all my synths remembered.

AP534-02 is the Flash OS SIMM from an E6400 - most likely the 1MB version (TBC).
