What is this synth (probably from early 2000s or late 90s)?
Hey guys, I'm new here.
So I've always liked this song called "Rule the World" by an artist named Atlas Plug (AKA Tom Salta, composer for many movies and games) that had a synth I really liked. If you listen to the song it's like a squelchy arpreggiator that's heard from the beginning of the song (starting at around 0:03) and playing continuously throughout the song. I originally thought it was a custom synth until I was looking at old commercials for things (because I'm obsessed with the early 2000's and 90's) and watched the Windows ME Commercial, hearing the same exact synth at 1:06 to 1:10 in the commercial.
I'm guessing the synth was from either 1999 or 2000 (the Windows ME commercial was from 2000), and I thinks it's maybe a soft synth or digital synth. It's also probably a premade patch on whatever synth it is, since I've heard the sound twice in 2 entirely different songs from 2 entirely different composers.
Does anybody know what this synth is? It would be interesting to know since I always thought it was really cool.

Update:
Found another clue. Synth was used in the song "I Want War" by Madlife as a main synth throughout the entire song.

Is there any way I can get this synth digitally (no pun intended) on my PC? Like a VST Emulation or something?

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Also runs in Pro Tools 11 as AAX with ddmf Metaplugin, IMO the best wrapper plugin.

Anybody know the exact patch for the sound? Or how to make it? The Wavestation has a ton of presets.

What is this patch? (Korg Wavestation)
Hey guys.
So I recently made a post inquiring about a certain patch that is apparently from Korg Wavestation I kept hearing in many early 2000's songs.
It's a squelchy synth arp that has a 1 bar melody.
It appears in "Rule the World" by Atlas Plug as a main synth beginning 3 seconds into the song.
It appears in the Microsoft Windows ME Commercial from 1:06 to 1:10.
It appears in the song "I Want War" by Madlife as a main synth beginning from the first second of the song.
Does anybody know what Wavestation patch this is, or know how to recreate it?

I laughed because I think you are high maintenance.DifferentGeneration wrote:Really, I mean it. Does anyone know the exact patch of the sound?

Two people provided you with information and you never said thank you, and then come back and want to KNOW the exact patch.
I dunno, maybe it's a generational thing.

I don't recognise it, there was nothing like that in the factory banks from Korg (including all the SR banks) (from memory) and I've got just about every Wavestation patch ever made. Not saying it isn't but I don't recognise it - if I get time I'll take a trawl through my library and see if I get any hits.
Sounds very distorted, for sure. However, you just want a simple synth patch and start playing with distortions and filters to find something in the ballpark. TBH it could just as easily be a sample from one of the sample libraries around at the time...

Re: What is this synth (probably from early 2000s or late 90
Sorry all, I forgot to say thanks for even bothering to answer my question.
I already asked a few other people on this forum and they said they didn't recognize the sound. I also spent the past hour researching the sound (yeah I'm doing my own homework megamax) and what it could possibly be comprised of.
I'll keep looking into it. In the meantime, thanks everybody for the help.
