Yamaha VSS-30....wow

Just picked up one of these. I own (and have plunked around on) a Casio SK-1 for many years. But....THIS thing...this VSS30 thing...with its ADSR and its ECHO and its SAMPLING (and OVERSAMPLING) and its LOOP and its FM and its AM and its FUZZ and its VIBRATO (among other goodies)......holy moley.....I just spent nearly THREE HOURS lost in the ambient SMEARscapes that this little board can produce. I'd read about this little plastic plank for years. Now I get it. This little dude fed into a couple of pedals and a delay and reverb (or two).....just amazing. That is all. Cheers.

Yeah. It's pretty cool huh? It would be one of the last things I'd ever part with for sure.

Yeah...I wasn't sure (at first)....but I kept pressing buttons and playing keys...and...well..just WOW. This liitle board just sprang to life emitting the most haunting lo-fi tones....even without external processing. Still amazed at what 80's "department store" synth technology can produce. Cheers.

One of my best buds had one back in the 80s and it has to be the easiest and most fun sampler ever made. I always liked the overdub feature being able to layer you voice or whatever.

Someone should make a pro version.

My VSS 200 is the most fun and inspiring keyboard I have (I even retrofitted it with MIDI). It's fun in pure form.

Love this old "gear photo" from the 80's! Is that a flugelhorn perched between the VSS30 and (what I believe to be) a Casio CZ101? Chuck Mangione would be proud.

That's just a regular trumpet. My friend did have a flugelhorn, though, and was a huge fan of Mangione, Maynard Ferguson and Herb Alpert.

That's a CZ-1000 - the full-size keys version of the 101.

Agreed, the VSS-30 never fails to inspire.
The overdubbing feature alone destroys the SK-1 and its ilk (which admittedly I also love).
