Geez, I did the modular thing too early, now I'm not gonna be hip any more.

Maybe some sort of modular controller? Something with CV knobs could be cool...
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Where are you guys getting modular from? It seems to me the whole campaign is about getting tracks finished rather than just noodling and saving it to the half finished projects folder. Modular is the opposite of finished tracks. ;)

I'm guessing some kind of digital recording apparatus. Maybe an app, software, or some kind of hybrid mixer / audio interface / launchpad type of thing.

My money's on some kind of sample bank/browser thing, some thing with a bunch of sounds/rhythms/loops to help people get "inspired". The music tech industry will never go out of business as long as they keep selling "inspiration" to musicians who think they just need to buy one more thing to finally get that amazing creative work they have inside them finally onto record. ;)

Just saw this over at Gearslutz:

Image
From Thomann, shows up in searches but the page is removed:

Novation Circuit, Analogue-modelled synthesiser, 4-part drum machine, 32 RGB velocity-sensitive sequencer pads, 6 voice polyphony, 64 patches, Step sequence or build live, 8 synth macro encoders with RGB LEDs, Combine up to 128 steps of synth and....

399 Euro list price
Producers: @WeAreNovation is unveiling a brand-new machine at @Recordstorenite with units avail to demo. DO NOT MISS.
So it's a new groovebox with Novation VA engine inside?

That looks like a software controller rather than a piece of hardware. It has no screen.

Edit: although the specs and the fact it has a master volume look like hardware. Wonder how those multi-function encoders could work without a display if it is?

I find this rather un-inspiring.

All the info/videos are here: http://global.novationmusic.com/circuit/circuit#

I got to say I'm surprised they made a digital multi-function interface without a display, but I can kind of see it working seeing as they embraced the whole groovebox aesthetic. Interesting anyway, not my kind of thing but I reckon some people will make some interesting music with this. The way of changing between the 8 bars by selecting the start and end loop points is really cool I reckon.

It's interesting the choice of gear they've got on the desk with it in the videos/photos. I spot an MPC1000, Analog Rytm, Octatrack, Tempest, Tetr4, Big Sky, TB-303, Casio VL-Tone and some kind of mechanical pencil sharpener. Interesting choices, I've owned most of those at one point or another.

I'll be interested to see how they DAW integration works, I wonder if it'll add any customisability?

Sonicstate did a little first look video, I really like the design philosophy behind this:

I like how the pad-based instruments like the MPCs are now integrating with the button based software controllers now, at both the hardware and software ends of the spectrum. I used to enjoy playing midi instruments on the pads of my MPCs, it's the thing I miss most about them I think. I wonder how long until one of the big companies comes out with something like this that does melodic stuff on launchpad style pads? Funnily enough it seems like Yamaha would be the most likely to, having done something similar in the past with the Tenori-On.
