8 Bit / Glitch
Heya, lads.
I read an article in a magazine (with SOS or Future Music) some time in 2015, a review rather, about a sound module which possibly generated ''glitch'' or/and 8-bit type sounds. I can't recall, though, if it was a sound generator/synth or an effects module. I have a feeling it generated sound. It was definitely new and it focused on ''glitch'' sounds, and stuttery noisy bleepy digital craziness. Perhaps it didn't take off or even get released, because I'm having zero success in finding this b-stard.
Does this disaster of a description ring any bells?
Thanks,
David.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
What a fun and useful piece of performance gear, that looks. Thanks for sharing, although ultimately not the one. I'm pretty sure now it was a sound generator of some sort, rather than an fx processor.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
How about the MWFX Super 8-Bit or MWFX Glitch ? Both effects, but close to what you describe.

Very cool also, cheers, but I found what I had been on the look for:Psy_Free wrote:How about the MWFX Super 8-Bit or MWFX Glitch ? Both effects, but close to what you describe.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch

perhaps this? I don't know if it was featured in a magazine and it isn't yet available, but one of the more interesting 8-bit concepts.

He already explained it was the Soulsby Atmegatron.

oh well. this at least reminded me about NerdSynth ...although it took sifting through a year's worth of bookmarks to find it.

No harm done! In fact, I'll encourage users to keep sharing any gear related to the o.p_seph wrote:.....somehow missed that post.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
I watched the vid OP posted, and could say quite a bit about it not being simply 8-bit nor a glitch unit, it looks and sounds like a bit-crusher or Lo-fi effect which has various bit rates and sweeping the frequencies gives those kind vocal and lo-fi sounds. Anyhow maybe I'm wrong, but the main thing I wanted to mention is the glitch is coming from glitching the video not the sound, so don't be fooled, and I'm not saying it doesn't still look and sound pretty cool.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
The term "glitch" is often subjective, I suppose. However, to describe ithe unit as a "Bit Crusher or Lo Fi Effect" would be wrong. The Atmegatron is an 8-bit Mono synth with endless waveforms, filters, an arp and, yes, a Bit CrusherZamise wrote:I watched the vid OP posted, and could say quite a bit about it not being simply 8-bit nor a glitch unit, it looks and sounds like a bit-crusher or Lo-fi effect which has various bit rates and sweeping the frequencies gives those kind vocal and lo-fi sounds. My favourite "glitch" toy though is the Stutter Edit plugin, it is very useable for composing and s**t loads of fun for performance.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
I can agree on all that, but you've got to see that the stuttering in that video is the video stuttering causing the stuttering glitch effect. Maybe I missed something and the unit can do that, but that was the video, you can see his hand jumping too when it happens.

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
Ah, I know what you mean now. Ha, yes I was aware of that, the jump cuts between video clips causing a glitch effect of their own. No I didn't think that's what the synth does!
Cheers, my good man

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch
The bastl trinity drum module has a nice glitch sound chip you can put in - it also allows sounds to be nastily crunched and the release on the envelope to be pushed a long way out. The interface is really difficult to use which makes it fairly random to use in itself. I'd recommend it.
Also the 'anti effect' from Poland is good at introducing random destruction.
Don't know what it is about East Europeans that give them the edge here?
