It's supposed to be nothing like a CS-80, if anything it's more like the spiritual successor of the SY77 and SY99 which also had a combination of FM synthesis and samples.

Except you're forgetting that Yamaha makes a lot more than just synths...
Had: DX7, AX-60, SR-16, Yamaha TQ5, 01/WFD, Juno-106, MG-1, JX-03
Want: OB-6, Prophet 6, Jupiter-6

Now if they would just reissue that synth for $499 dollars with modern built in FX and USB capabilities they'd surely be a more successful company!
By "more successful" do you mean lose tons of money on unwise business ventures and eventually go bankrupt? A CS-80 with upgrades for $499...don't hold your breath.

Judging by his last few posts I'm not sure if that's totally the case...
Had: DX7, AX-60, SR-16, Yamaha TQ5, 01/WFD, Juno-106, MG-1, JX-03

I got a chance to see the Montage in action yesterday at the synth meet. OMG this thing sounds like Hans Zimmer on steroids. The detail in sound quality was absolutely stunning.

Nobody wants that old c**p. What are you going to do, sit around and play Vangelis songs all day? It's over. History. I played one back in the '70's and pretty much hated it. It has one type of sound. "Oh listen. It's a CS-80." Great. Sick of hearing about that damn synth like it's some kind of god. It isn't.

And if you really want a CS-80, start saving up, buy one, and shut up about it. If you can find one that is. The guys in Ireland seem to be hogging them all. :D

He's just trolling you guys. He explicitly spells synth names wrong to see if you pick up on that too. Attention w***e.

It was pretty much tongue-in-cheek for me.

Those who read my posts know I never go off like that on people OR synths.

And honestly I would looove to have a Yamaha CS80. Probably will someday. But they've like doubled in price in the past five years; they used to be $10,000 or $12,000, now it's more like $20,000. That really IS just nuts.

Loving my new Montage 8 anyway, too busy playing with that to think of anything else synthy right now...!
