Part 1 is up - and part 2 will be uploaded today

Anyone who owns older synths know by now there's a new skill we must learn to keep our gear working: electronics!

The video covers some basic tips for people who aren't sure about pulling apart their synths (which are older and out of warranty). I've got little to no experience doing this, so I thought if I can do it, you guys can also :)

FYI I ordered the part from Yamaha USA. This repair will also apply to anyone who has the same problem with the Yamaha DX200.

I had this problem with a DX200.
Without taking the unit apart, just removing the cap of the encoder and using liberal amounts of de-oxit circuit cleaner spray right at the encoder and flipping the DX upside down to drain a few times while exercising the knob fixed the problem.
Data encoder now works like a charm...for now.

Yeah I tried this fix - and mine didn't improve afterwards. So the replacement job got the nod :)

I might need this eventually too, my encoder is a little touchy and I've been asked by other folks with one or the other about fixing them before and now I know where to send them if they ask again, thanks.

my pleasure :)

The more repair jobs and projects I do with synths, the more I grow in confidence. I just started another Arduino project with my Moog Werkstatt - these things are so cool to tweak.

When I had the AN200 apart I couldn't help but wonder how hard would i be to do a custom module for these PLG150-AN cards. Just need to find some write-ups on their pinouts ...

I inherited an AN 200 with such a problem from my cousin Rick, does it worth repairing it?

If you can't do the repair, the PLG150-AN card inside can be easily sold...it can be fitted to a number of Yamaha synthesizers and has being rising in price over the last few years.

It's actually really easy. Just make sure you order the correct part from Yamaha (I put a link/info to it in the description on the video).
