Post by garranimal » Fri Apr 01, 2016 7:30 pm

How to modify the Minibrute to output 3 note polyphony with a Sysex message.
Midierror shows us how

An April Fool's joke, or a thing of beauty? I'll leave that to the experts....

I sold my Minibrute. Otherwise I would still like to know what the sysex message does to the brute, if anything.

And in truth, it's probably 3-note paraphony, not true polyphony -- not that I want this thread to go down that rabbit hole, as so many others have done!

I still have a MB SE, so once I find out this isn't a self-destruct message and it actually works, I may try it.

That magic switch that sends a MIDI string was hilarious though.

Yeah, a momentary switch would have made way more sense :D
I pretty much assumed it was a hoax. He says you can ask questions, but big text flashes that says "please don't".
Hope nobody is actually cutting holes in their synth.
I doubt the sysex string is self destruct. Hopefully its just a test mode for LEDs or something.

I'd put in a text saying "hold the switch On for 3 seconds to send all the MIDI data, then Off quickly to avoid overflowing the synth"

It was nicely done.

I liked where he's playing "polyphonically", the audio doesn't match up with video - he releases the keys but the audio is clearly dubbed on after and the notes don't end where the playing ends - dead giveaway. I'd have been more accurate in the sync! ;)

You guys probably also don't know that on synths with a MIDI "overflow" mode, which is designed to send additional notes out to a second module when you've run out of polyphony - if you use one synth, connect it's MIDI OUT to it's MIDI IN, and now the overflow notes now get sent back to the synth, resulting in double the polyphony!

It's magic!

:D

Oh man, 6 note polyphony on my Minibrute! I gotta try it out right now! 6 METALIZERS AT ONCE, MAN. Can we mod in a Unison mode too, you think?

I really don't want to offend anyone but that proves how little people using synths know about them, for Christ sake it was a pure Sawtooth 3 notes chord where he even didn't bother changing the mixer volumes and had square high up + tri. then comments such as wow it sounds somehow different ..... People please be reasonable, an analog mono being suddenly a poly ? like they built a 3 osc poly synth (with all parts involved in an analog synth ) and decided to switch 2 off or something seriously .... :) who would belive that ???

Not to even mention the date..
