Should I sell my Juno 106 or my AN1X

Post by aqualung23 » Wed May 18, 2016 4:22 pm

And why? I have the AN1X on ebay now but I'm having second thoughts. I'm looking to purchase a prophet 6, so selling the Juno would obviously get me a lot closer to the $2,000 I will need for the prophet.

Didn't you post a similar question already?

Not really. The other question I asked was if the prophet six would replace my current 106/Korg R3 stage rig. In this thread I'm asking whether you would keep the Juno or the AN1X if you were going to sell one (which I'm guessing many will answer "keep both", lol). I don't feel like I've really delved deep enough into the AN1X to really appreciate it, and it's just been sitting around. I love the Juno, but it will inevitably start breaking on me (the voice chips have been "serviced" but not replaced).

I think that answers your question. I'd be with you- the AN1X is much deeper and sounds great. Selling the Juno gets you into the ballpark for a much better synth i.e. the P6. Personally I'd go for the P12 or the Evolver (used obvs). But ya, I know it's probably a bit of a headwrecker seeing as all the hipsters think the Juno is the be all and end all of great synths. Ignore them! Cash in on their foolishness! LOL!

I don't really understand the Juno 106 hype. Also, you certainly know about the chip problem, if it's not already fixed on your synth. I tried both and kept the AN1x, I got tired of the chip problems in the Juno. You can alway buy the boutique version later. Sell the Juno as long as the prices are high. :)
Worked with:
Roland D50,JD800,XV3080,V-XT,MKS7
Yamaha FS1R,Motif ES R,CS6R,AN1X,AN200,TG500
Korg Trinity R,TritonR,EX8000,MS2000R,Radias
Novation Supernova 2R
Kawai K5000
DSI Mopho
Clavia NordLead1R
Ensoniq ESQ1,SQ80,MR

In the other thread you mentioned you loved the Juno's bass. If you have two synths, and you want to sell one, and one does something you love while the other just sits there, maybe you should consider selling the one that just sits there.

The other question is: why is the AN1X just sitting there? If it's really only a matter of not being able to devote the time into exploring it, I would do that first and foremost before deciding on whether or not to buy another synth.

If, on the other hand; you have had the time, just not the desire to use the AN1X; then you're looking at a clear sign that that's the one to sell. Getting rid of the Juno is not going to free you up so you can spend more time with the AN. I dont have a crystal ball, but I predict you're going to get the P6 and the AN will still sit.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

I don't really feel like the AN1X excels at bass, and bass is always central to my music. I think the P6 will replace the Juno without missing a beat, so I may actually end up getting rid of both, which would essentially be like trading the Juno and AN1X for a P6, which I think I'll be happy with. I wouldn't even have to ask this forum, except that I don't live anywhere near a place where I could actually demo one myself. I suppose I could always make the 2 hr drive to NYC to find one to play with.
