Hello,
I own an Access Virus TI2. This is a great machine for synth bass and leads, but I haven't been able to create or find any usable synth keyboard patches.
I am looking for a hardware synth that can do *KEYBOARD* sounds.
I mean *badass* full, warm, strong keyboard sounds.
I have the Native Instruments vintage keyboard collection, however, they are too weak and I don’t like the “classic” or vintage 70s style keyboards.
I want a modern keyboard sound that would be more appropriate to accompany rock guitar and also would be a cool drum n bass element.
I have been looking at the Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 or Prophet 8.
Any suggestions?

Not sure entirely what you mean, but also have a feeling you might be after something like either one of these two current models :

I'd ask to define what you mean by "keyboard sounds". Are we talking piano, organ, etc? or something else. The Virus will do anything that the Pro 2 or Prophet 8 can do, just different flavors.

As far as I've heard and tested, Kurzweil and Korg are your brands to go to. Maybe Alesis as well... The QSR is really affordable and you can achieve tons of great keyboard sounds. I'm really happy with mine.

why do you want another synth if you don't want to program the one you have? (one that can already do it)
might as well get a rompler(JD-800 or JD-990 w/ vintage card, for one) or better yet a korg sv-1 and call it a day

The Roland Fantom XR or any of the XV range of modules (the XV-5080 is pretty impressive) will do this straight out of the box if it's a rackmountable module you're after. Some even double up as samplers.
