have you ever bought the same peice of gear 3 times?

Post by squatski » Sun Jun 05, 2016 12:32 am

by that I mean,

You bought it,
then you sold it,
then you bought it again and sold it again
but by the THIRD time, you bought it with the intention of keeping it forever because you regretted selling it the last 2 times

Yes, Korg MS2000. I love the sound, but can't abide only having 4 voices.

Oh yeah, been there:

Elektron Octatrack (I'm on my third right now), and Elektron Machinedrum (I've owned three, although they weren't the exact same versions; the first two were UWs, I think, but the third, the one I own now, is the non-UW version).

If you count the TX7 I bought in between buying my Mk.1 DX7 the first time and then buying it back from Music-Go-Round, then yep, absolutely.

Also the Korg DW-8000, but that's primarily because the first one I owned was beyond my skill to heal.

I had a DX7S, then a TX7 and a DX7 Mk 1. Miss them already. I quite fancy a TX802 now.

Arp OMNI
Micromoog

I think I'm going to let them go again soon, too. Love 'em and leave 'em, right?

Bought and sold three times: pAiA 9700 modular, Yamaha PLG150-AN

I'll skip the much longer list of stuff I bought and sold twice.

I have no idea why I second guessed my initial gut reactions and decided to give the gear another try.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Hello, my name is Blue Monster and ... I'm a repeat synth buyer ... *choke* ...

We need a support group for this problem as much as any other here, I think. My list includes:

Boss DR-110 (5x)
Roland CR-8000 (3x)
Korg EMX (3x)
Akai AX-60 (3x)
Kawai K-4 (3x)
Korg KR-55b (2x)
Arp Odyssey (2x)
Arp 2600 (2x)
Akai XR-20 (2x)
Roland JP-6 (2x)
Mini Moog (2x)
EMU Vintage Keys (2x)
EMU XL7 (2x)
Crumar Bit One (2x)
Kawai SX-240 (2x)

And I think there are a few others, too. Mind you, there are a couple in there I bought just to flip (Arp 2600 - first synth I had/played, then bought another one years later to sell to a friend), but most I had for at least a little while and played before moving it on.

Man, but I had WAY too much gear over the years. Wish I still had some of it now ...
Muhahahahahahahahaha!

What caused you to do that to the poor paia??? I built mine, and would never sell it (even though it's not the most chromatically useful synth).

Bought a Triton rack. Editing a pain. Need that touchscreen. Sold
Bought a Triton Pro, wanted a Kronos. Sold.
Kronos too deep. Got some modules. Realized instead of a controller could get better value out of old 2000's workstation. Bought a Triton!

I'm not selling this one.

Let me guess- because it's a cool sounding synth but terribly badly made? I would buy one again... if it worked!!

Sold a CZ-5000 years ago to get a VZ-1. Big mistake. Replaced it with a CZ-101, not enough polyphony, replaced that with a CZ-1 (great synth), then bought another CZ-5000 so I could retrieve old sequences off the data tape. Sold the lot and replaced with Virtual CZ :)
