Korg Delta - opinions please?

Post by xenia625 » Sat Jun 18, 2016 5:35 pm

Heyas,

Just wondering if some of you could share your opinions on the Korg Delta?

I'm pretty happy with my RS-09 for what it is (can sound especially good running through my LM-1229), but am curious as to whether the Delta would count as an upgrade over the RS or just a... "more of the same", for lack of a better way to express my thoughts.

Thin, weedy, squeaky, dreadful filtering ("blurp") are my memories, and the strings are thin-sounding and anemic in my recollection.

But that's only me, of course.

The RS-09 also fell short quite a bit when compared with the RS-202, but that's only me as well.

Cheesy thin strings, nice old Korg synth filter sweeps.

Thanks! So far it's sounding like it wouldn't really be too much of an improvement over the RS-09, so I'll hold back, and instead start giving more consideration to a Tom-1501 or maybe an EM-25... we'll see.

Anyone have anything more *positive* to say about the Delta? :)

It's a good doorstop.

Seriously, the 09 sounds a lot better because of the Roland chorus built into it but still, it's fairly limited considering the prices it fetches these days (possibly because of its association with early Detroit techno and electro).

If you've already got the Roland, you might opt for a decent little polyphonic synth rather than another mediocre string machine... a friend of mine has an EM-25 and loves it for some reason but I just can't warm up to it, no matter how many effects devices I'm running it through.

Yeah, I already have the Roland... any suggestions for such a little poly?

If my FAEMI-1M was properly working I'd likely be fine with that and this wouldn't even be a question, I do really like it... there's a couple of capacitors in it that look dodgy so hopefully swapping those out will do the trick. Not sure if it'd be worth the money to ship it to Russia to have it fixed, labour + 2x shipping might be more than it'd cost to get another... but that's a different subject entirely!

No idea how much you would be willing to spend (and whether this would be up your alley) but people seem to like the Korg Minilogue. Maybe you would be willing to save even more money and buy one of those new Prophets or Oberheims?

Thanks, I'll take a peek at the Minilogue.

I could theoretically go for a new Prophet or Oberheim but that'd likely kill the rest of my budget for the year... while the idea is attractive, I *do* need to spend some money on non-sexy stuff such as furniture to get my permanent 'studio' arrangement set up - as things are I've got everything on random shelves and tables, not a really efficient way to work! Buuuut it might be something I could talk my friends into as a collective purchase. We share gear with each other anyways (I have a friend's Korg DW-6000 in my possession at the moment, actually, earlier I had a JP-8000 on loan for a few months), so it might actually be a viable idea...

I had one for many years and loved it, but only in a sentimantal, looks so cool sort of way. Its very limited and I had an RS101 and this was better for strngs. And it kept breaking down till i just gave up on it. Used to get some amazing death rattle noises out of it as it collapsed while playing live.
Still a beautiful looking piece of gear but hardly impressive soundwise

Haha. From what I've read I think it might best be suited for percussive sounds? :P
